You really should be getting a decent volume of traffic before you even consider going ad free and monitizing your forum. why have u zero posts and i cant click on your name ? just curious thats all. FYI, I visited your awesome forum. Great job! You have a great community. I also clicked your "advertise" buttin and sent you a message. Haven't heard back from you. Did you get it? I did. I'm not sure traffic is the problem on my new forum. I mean it's nothing spectacular but I'm getting between 20-30 guests a day normally. The thing is, it is mostly bots.
To try to get actual people to visit, I've started my advertisement "scheme". Set up signatures where allowed that link to my site (though not the most eye-catching). I posted my link on my FB wall - at least this so far has been shared once and liked by three separate friends. I'm going to keep trying, but I know it will take time.
Time. The main ingredient.

I'm pretty much in a spot where my site gets 73 guests per day at most but I think they're mainly bots and one thing I've noticed at least my genre is they use twitter a lot so if anything use twitter to promote your site too if that helps

Having a aesthetically pleasing site can be a huge advantage! Sites that are pretty tend to catch my eye much more than others. And sites that make my eyes hurt make me leave almost immediately.

Oh, and I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, and it may seem obvious, but have an advertisement section! Sites will delete your ads if you don't have a place for theirs. Some people don't have one, or have it in a very hard to find location, which frustrates other people. So have an ad section so that, in turn, you can also get your ads out there.

Word of mouth has been great lately! We have very active roleplayers and they've been having so much fun (yay) they've been telling their friends or even helping us advertise all on their own (despite not being mods/admins). It's a blessing!

I don't personally advertise a lot on other rp boards. I realized the other day when I went to post an ad that the average view count on those posts is usually 3-5. One of those is you after you post it, the other is the admin of the site looking for the link to post on your own board. The other 1-3 don't feel worth the 15-20 seconds it takes to post my ad on their site. I've never even looked at a board's advertise board when looking for a new forum to join, and I can't imagine most do. If the other site has a similar theme, like right now I'm trying to get a brand new HP roleplay up and running, so if I come across another HP site, I'll post my ad then because it's something I know those memebers are interested in. Otherwise I stick to proboards support and other plug boards.
