Is it possible to allow a member who chooses to delete their account to also have the option to delete their posts?

Hi, @ritab
It might ruin the flow, but I feel the content they contribute is theirs and therefore, they should have the option. My forum wouldn't be ruined and as admin we've removed mass posts that our members have asked us to.
And we do that because some who have chosen to leave spend days physically deleting their own posts because they no longer want them on the internet once they are gone. I'd rather respect my members wishes and privacy than worry about content flow.
Forum cleanup is done by admins. We've deleted over a half million posts on our board.
Since admins can currently remove members post at their request, I would like to see my members have that choice, too. It is their words. If they can delete single posts one at a time; why not multiples?
Not all may choose to take advantage of the option, but if they did, I would understand.
I hate leaving cyber footprints and I do respect my members' privacy.
And I wouldn't want to impose it on admins who hate the idea. It should be a feature we can enable if we want it.
In that way, admins who don't want to allow their members the option are free not to enable it.
And those of us who don't mind, could enable it.
Some feel funny asking us to remove their posts ~ this way the choice is theirs. I have a member who washes away their posts after a period of time. And that's fine with me.
I think if I ever left, I would want to take my posts with me.

I am not sure i agree so much. People have a tendency to delete an account on a whim. Whilst it is easy to remake an account, it is harder to recreate all those posts.

My members are all adults. They don't take deleting their account or posts lightly.
As I said, it may not be wanted by all, but it would be nice to have as an option.
I like to err on the side of my members and their privacy. If they choose to no longer have their posts on my board, who am I to argue with that? And if they want to be in control of that decision, I have no problem giving them that option.
Forum cleanup is the admin's option; I don't mind them having equal representation.
They can already delete them one at a time; so I don't see the issue.

Deleting one at a time is a little more tedious, and thus they may not do it, than having the option of deleting all posts with one click.
I guess it is just from my experience here, and seeing so many people deleting their accounts [usually always adults too...], and then regretting it.

It would definitely be two separate features.
Delete Account?
Delete Posts?
All?
or
From this date to this date:
One won't affect the other.
I have had members literally remove hundreds of posts one by one ~ and when pointed out they could be mass removed by admin ~ they didn't care. They wanted the control.
An option is just that ~ an option.
It doesn't have to be utilized just because it is there.
As I said, we dumped nearly a half million posts a year or two ago.
We're general talk. If you wanted to go back and read ~ I think one would die a slow death of boredom!

Perhaps. I could live with that, but I would rather two distinct actions ~ to be on the safe side.
And I also prefer the choice to delete all or delete from specified date to specified date.
And hey, if they regret it, it's a money generator for ProBoards if they want them restored!

It sucks that smilies don't work within divisions. I hope the bug is fixed soon.

And hey, if they regret it, it's a money generator for ProBoards if they want them restored! You originally stated the option for deleting of both, together, or that's how I interpreted your original post. Having a "delete account" and then a separate "delete all posts" option, would be crazy. With it like that, they could just delete all posts, and not their account. Or similar, someone could get into their account and delete all posts. I personally don't think a "delete all posts" is a good option to have. However, I do understand your point of being given the option. I think we should all be able to choose to. Perhaps it could also be an Admin Setting. Members Can Delete All Posts: [Enabled] [Disabled] (Description Bubble - Allow members to be able to delete ALL posts when they decide to delete their forum account)

Yes, Stinky. That's what I said it should be. A feature the admin has control over offering. Definitely needs to be the admins discretion.
And I would like separate functions because I don't care if they choose to delete posts from date to date, or even all, and still remain an active member.
With so much talk of government spying on the internet, it's become a sensitive subject for some. They prefer leaving no footprint.
As I posted, I have a member who does delete her posts after a period of time ~ one by one.
I would never advocate taking the final decision from the admin ~ I just would like the admins to be able to give their members this option.
It can simply replicate the forum cleanup the admins have ~ but it would be a post clean up for the member.
So I do prefer the two options be separate ~ delete account if that's what they want and/or post deletion options with or without deleting account.
