Forum URL: southernwaoutdoors.com.auIs it possible to INCREASE the length of the member display name (30 char seems to be the std limit) to, say, 40? Many of my Tourism Service Providers have quite long names.

It would have to be changed in the forum software itself. I will make this as a feature request, and hopefully one of the admin's will post their thoughts later today

Since this topic is now marked as a feature request, our developers will be able to make the decision down the road when they're looking for new feature ideas. Typically though, limits are put in place for system resources, so I'm not sure how well this one will go. But I'll keep it marked anyway for them to consider

The only reason I asked for it is that is really important to my TSPs to have as much "branding synergy" as possible.

It can make a difference; it's the same reason why we impose limits on the number of characters used in signatures as well that cannot be raised at the moment despite the fact that a lot of people won't come close to the current character limit for signatures. But the main point to my last post is that there is a decent chance that the idea may get turned down, so I just don't want to leave you with high expectations just in case it doesn't get implemented. It really can go either way

It really can go either way Again thank you Ricky - ok understood, but I guess you don't get if you don't ask - maybe, instead of a global platform setting increase, it could be done by way of the forum Admin having the ability to increase a substantiated member's forum length name - that would cater for both ends of the spectrum (those wishing to reduce the length) and those limited cases where an increase is warranted - this would also reduce the overhead?

That could possibly add more strain, since the system would need to check to see if a limit is enabled, then determine what the limit is. Plus it adds yet another option to the forum settings page. It's quite a balancing act that makes me happy that I'm just a support person sometimes

You could use a custom profile field instead to give their full name

Hi, Colin Molloy, you add custom fields in the Members Section of the Admin Panel. Hi ♥ ℒʊ√ ♥ - ahhh! OK - thank you for that - just had a play - I didn't know that existed - may come in handy in the future - but not quite what I was after - as I want to be able to increase the length of the main displayed member name at the top of the member's mini profile
