I'm just in the process of QAing my guest instructions and I've been recalled to a user name requirement that isn't, I believe, covered in the ubiquitous login.proboards.com/submit/register registration page.
In the input field Forum Username, the help text on the RHS of the input field states (and I quote):
What it does not cover is the requirement for the username character sting NOT to contain a blank (separator) (  if you like 
) (although yes, it is somewhat obliquely inferred). I'll illustrate. If you enter a username of (say) Best Test (with the space between Best and Test it will continue you prompt you to enter a valid username and of course invoke the captcha.
Perhaps, if I may suggest, what it SHOULD say is,

This is your unique username on the forum. You can change your name others see by updating the "display name" in your forum profile. Note: usernames may only contain a-z and 0-9, and may be no longer than twenty characters.
