Call it....
Battleshipsters.
Everything including hipsters is better than the original....
This is a joke, lol. How about Battle of the Ships? Simple and enough of a sound alike to remind people of Battleship.

[pronounced /?l??r/] Just a guess but I believe this might have been filed in anticipation of the original trademark not being enforceable over a "global network" if it was interpreted literally as a locally installed computer game only. Similar rulings most likely showed that this was not the case and the claim was abandoned. It should also be noted that successful prosecution of previous marks show that the name need not be an exact match to be enforceable if it can be shown that the name was chosen to create a connection in the mind of the viewerDisclaimer: This should in no way be construed as legal or even competent, credible advice

No joke THE NAME is half the battle. How about Ships in Battle. I do like Eton's "Battle Royale" though. That could potentially cause problems too.. Battle Royale is a title of a particularly violent Japanese movie and it's sequel, and, unfortunately, is another of the Jap Horrors being remade in the US.

I second the sound and screen shaking. Html5 audio here should work in every browser except opera for mp3 files. <audio controls preload="auto" id='battleshipmusic'> <source src="explosion.mp3" type="audio/mpeg"> </audio> You can hotlink your custom mp3 files from opendrive.com if need be. You can play it with document.getElementById('battleshipmusic').play() An example of what shaking would look like: www.ajaxblender.com/script-sources/jshaker/demo/index.htmlOr you could write your own simple effect using jquery.animate and modifying left/right/up/down in short bursts I think that would really give a surprise if you heard a missile launch and explosion/shaking etc. You could also add a mute sound control using: document.getElementById('battleshipmusic').muted = true; I also think that it would be awesome if every time you lost a ship waves would slowly rise over your forum until it got to the top and then pb.window.alert Your __ship has been sunk. Now that would be a cool animation to do. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth though. I think using the drag and drop feature for placing your boats would be a cool way to get that feel of the game. Instead of just click placing. If you had a: 3 2 1 Fire! countdown somehow implemented it would be cool. AND A BIG RED BUTTON IS A MUST AFTER YOU CHOOSE WHERE TO FIRE Having Bonuses hidden in the water could be cool. Say you hide 3 extra turn crates of ammo when the board is created (on each side) If you fired and hit a hidden crate you could fire again. Call it Resupplied Ammo or something. Maybe include some Drill Instructor voices for New Game, Quit, Etc. As a hover effect on the button. I'm throwing out ideas because I know you won't settle for less than awesome. If you have a question on one of my ideas, the vision of it, or if you want to add some of them but don't know how the code would work, I would totally code or help code it. Also I think it would be cool if the board design had a TRON feel to it.

I hate to say it but I don't like the idea of ALL those flashy sound effects its too much! And makes it sound tacky and garish and I know if it had all those sound effects it would lose any appeal for me to use it.
Also screen shaking can cause nausea or general feelings of discomfort and can be triggering and user unfriendly.

Which to me seems a waste of time. Battleships has NEVER been about flashy tacky cheap additions. Its always been a very simple game.

I disliked that electronic Battleship game for the exact same reason.
It was always much more fun with pen and paper than it was with electronic sounds and flashing lights.. I always had the feeling of 'oh, just get on with it already'.
Some games do not need 'enhancements', and I personally think Battleships is one of them.
