Hi guys, my board is almost ready to go. I did a configuration almost ready for version 1.0 to start looking for users. But I have a technical issue that is stopping me to do so. The project is based on a framework. This framework allows accessing to any economic variable for the included jurisdictions. Variables are equivalent to threads so they can be updated and discussed. They are compiled in bulk in a macro board at the top, And every jurisdiction at the bottom has a copy of their variables of interest so they can maintain and browse. Ideally, a thread in the macro board should be shown also at the national board. But currently this is not possible. So, we sorted out somehow by using announcements instead. Announcements works. They are replicated and they look nicely at the bottom national boards BUT, at the top macro board there would be 100+ announcements and the board would become unreadable if all are sticky at the top. So, according to your experience, is there anything that can be done, to allow macro board display the variables in a readable way? For example, sharing threads between boards (as announcements do), a thread which is just a pointer to another thread, allowing an announcement to be unsticky or falling.... I am eager to go for a paid service in short time but I cannot find a useful solution. Can someone in support team figure out any? Thanks

Hi,
Unfortunately, it's not possible to have topics showing up in two different boards, and because of the way the announcement work, they can not fall like normal topics.
The best i can do is add this as a feature request, and see if the admins think a feature can be added, like in the previous ProBoards version, to allow sub-board posts to be shown in the parent board.

2 questions then: i understand it should be for proboards v6, right? migration from v5 to v6 is possible or you have to start a new project for v6? Any guess about when v6 can be out?
Thanks

It wouldn't have to be. I don't think v6 is anywhere near a start because v5 was built to be expanded upon and added to, so it has a few years in it yet. I see no reason why it couldn't be added to v5, but it is a matter of if and when when considering all the other things which are requested. Like i previously said, an admin may be able to provide more information after they discuss it with the dev team

Hi ponzinomics, You shouldn't have to wait until v6+, as Craig noted, we're actively adding in feature to the v5 software. With that said though, there are a ton of other feature requests we've received since the launch of v5, so there may still be quite a long wait before something like this is able to be added into the system. My apologies for not being able to offer better news if you were looking for this feature soon, but just wanted to provide that heads up

You can check out our Development Blog area for updates as they come

Hi, I have been thinking for a while since there are lots of way to address the issue. What about a 'fake/dummy thread' plugin? for example, having 2 threads, with thread_ids 123 and 45. If would be possible to configure that, when you click on thread 123, it should open thread 45 instead. The admin would create manually 2 different threads, as usual, and configure somewhere the setting 123 -> 45. The plugin would just rewrite the URL of the dummy thread according to the mapping (i.e. xxxxx.com/thread/45). Any admin will be able to configure as many copies as he needs of threads in any board by adding a new entry and no changes in core server side required. And would allow me launch the project. Would this be possible?

Doing it that way should be possible, if you want to go ahead with a new plugin request

Thanks Ricky, knowing that there is a way is a relief that encourages to keep working. Not in a hurry. Actually, I realized I could do myself a row of menu buttons, as well, in the templates, at the top of the threads list. Nevermind, issue fixed. I will wait for news on the feature request from dev team next months. Thanks
