Forum URL: ylstang-racin.forums.net/Curious question why is it that some settings and plug in's apply's only to PC's and not mobile device's such as my cell phone? That kinda defeats the purpose of the plug in if you have some members only log in with their phone. I'll never let that be known or posted on either of my forum's. Is there any settings or codes I can insert to prevent this such as the disabling of post editing and deletion, and the invisible option removed? Was it set up this way for a reason or is it just the way it worked out? I know all members have their Right's that I will defend and I will defend the TOS But as I've heard so many times a Forum's owner run's his own site. If I can enforce on a PC Why can't I on a mobile?

Hey Bütch, When you access the forum through your phone, you're shown a mobile site that is designed to be optimized for devices with limited connection speeds and processing power. Not only is the layout boiled down to a simple one based on the colors you have set in the visual editor, but any extraneous code you have in place, headers, plugins, etc, doesn't load. This is primarily for two reasons: 1. So that the browsing experience isn't slowed by tons of JavaScript loading on every page, and 2. Many plugins are designed to work on the desktop mode and target elements that exist when in that mode. Even if you could run plugins on the mobile mode, most would probably not work. However, if someone has a powerful device like a tablet or modern phone, they can simply tap the "Desktop" button to go to the full desktop mode. Everything will load for them then, code included. Forcing someone who doesn't necessarily have a powerful device to also use this mode would likely bog them down and put them off browsing the forum.

Hi, Bütch. The mobile web version of the forum is a slimmed down version of the forum optimized for use with mobile devices. It's meant to use as little bandwidth as possible, meaning no extra bells or whistles are incorporated into it, including the thousands upon thousands of lines of potential plugin code. In addition, the mobile web version has completely different HTML structure compared to the desktop version of the forum, so the Javascript that the plugin runs on page load is completely inapplicable to the mobile web version anyways. Plugins that attempt to hide features present on both versions will obviously not work on the mobile version for those reasons. Technically you can bypass plugins that hide features on the desktop version as well with enough web knowledge as they're editing and hiding elements that were already loaded on the page, which is why I personally design most of my plugins to add features rather than remove them.

Thanks David and BrianThat's good to know, I can appreciate that fact now, that saves on my cell phone, knowing it is limited then without it being throttled back or me having to pay extra every month Resolved David when I tried to tag your name it keeps changing to Plagueis whoever that is <LOL> Two more questions, when trying to tag another member with the @ symbol it won't let me upper case the first letter of their name and some member's it won't let me tag them at all, I have to use the insert link with their name as the text to get it to look right and I don't know if that lets you know if you been tagged or not that way? Is there a setting to prevent being tagged?

You might be making the mistake of using my display name instead of my username, Bütch, since Plagueis has the username "david". Display names can be changed at any time, so you can't use them. To tag me, use this: @davidlinc1 ... since davidlinc1 is my username. A neat tip is that you can hold down the ALT key on your keyboard and then click on a member's display name to quickly tag them. This works on both the full and quick reply pages. Is there a setting to prevent being tagged? You can't prevent others from being able to tag you by putting @ in front of your username, but you can always disable the notification you get when you're tagged. You can do that in Profile > Edit Profile > Notifications tab.
