The Generalities
Before the game begins, each of the players is randomly assigned a side – either the villagers (good guys) or the Mafia (bad guys). The village's goal is to get rid of all the Mafia members, because the Mafia are taking out the villagers one by one. They're down to the last few villagers now, and they don't know who amongst them is a mafioso. Each day, they have a meeting to discuss who they think is Mafia. With little law enforcement left, they're forced to hang their chosen suspect in the town square each day at dusk.
The Mafia, meanwhile, are trying to take over the village. It's a promising drug trafficking route – but they need control in order to use it safely. By night, they collectively choose a villager and violently murder them; by day, they're just regular villagers, but trying to mislead the others at the meetings in order to ensure their survival and the demise of the village.
The Specifics
Day phase:
All living players meet in the town hall to discuss who to lynch. They use evidence such as voting records, suspicious behavior, and deduction to try and work out who is Mafia and kill them. The Mafia tries to mislead them into killing their own. Once a player has received more than 50% of the vote, they are lynched, and the game moves into the night phase.
Notes
- Days last 24 hours total. If no majority is reached, there will be no lynch.
- When posting your vote, please post it in bold.
- Vote retraction is allowed. You may also change your vore anytime before the end of the day phase.
- Players may vote to lynch themselves, but outright suicide is not allowed.
- No indirect vote (e.g., "I'll vote for the majority").
Night phase:
The narrator recounts the day's lynching in a humorous format. The Mafia discusses who their next target is to be, and then the Godfather PMs their decision to the narrator. Any special roles who might have a reason to contact the narrator during the night phase, such as the detective and the doctor, also do so. At daybreak, the narrator recounts the night's happenings to the village, and the next day phase begins.
Notes
- No posting in the thread is allowed at night.
- The game starts begins with Night 1.
- The night phase shall last no longer than 36 hours. If the Mafia fails to PM their choice to the narrator within the time limit, no one will be killed. The same principle applies to other special roles that contact the narrator during the night phase.
Death:
Upon a player's death, their alignment (village or Mafia) is revealed. That player is then forbidden from posting in the thread or communicating with other players about the game. If the player was a doctor, detective, or wannabe detective, this role will also be revealed.
Victory:
Victory for the village comes when they have successfully lynched all Mafia players in the game.
Mafia victory comes when the Mafia numbers are equal to those of the village.
In either case, all participants on the winning side, including dead players, are considered to have won. Players may therefore choose to "sacrifice" themselves for the benefit of their side and still win.
Specific Player Roles
Mafia-aligned roles:
Mafia – Pretends to be a villager by day, but at night discusses with the other Mafia members and helps to choose a villager target that night, who is killed.
Godfather - Elected by the other Mafia members during the first night phase. The Godfather PMs the narrator during night phases with the Mafia's decision of which villager to lynch. Should the Godfather be lynched, they may PM the narrator with the name of a successor upon their death.
Coward - If the Godfather is killed, the Coward defects and becomes a villager. This gives them the advantage of being a villager who knows who the other Mafia members are -- if the other villagers believe them. [This role will only be assigned if at least 12 players sign up.]
Village-aligned roles:
Villager – Just a plain ol' villager! No special powers; discusses suspects and votes during the day. No night actions.
Doctor – Like a normal villager, but, once per night, can choose to protect any player. That player, if chosen by the Mafia during the same night phase, will survive.
Detective – Like a normal villager, but, once per night, can PM the narrator asking for the alignment of any player in the game.
Wannabe Detective - This player thinks they're the detective, and their actions are the same, but their forecast returns the wrong result 25% of the time. [This role will only be assigned if at least 12 players sign up.]
Shaman - If this vengeful player is lynched, the first player in the round who cast a vote for them will have a curse (unknowingly) placed on them. Two days later, that player will die, regardless of their role and overriding any protection they may have received that round. (The curse does not take effect if the Mafia kills this player.)
