Restricting new members from creating threads

I would like to restrict new members on my forum from being able to create threads until they have posted at least once. 

This is because, in my experience, spammers have always created threads rather than added posts to existing threads.

Is there a way I can do this?

Hi

You can restrict based on rank [ which is based on post count ]. So you could have a rank for new members with 0 post count, and then have a new rank starting from 1 post. Yo can modify the ranks in the administration area [ admin > members > ranks ].

In you then go into admin > structure > categories and boards you should see a list of your boards. You will need to do this for each board. Double click on the board to bring up it's settings panel, and then click on the permissions tab. You should see various permission options including one for who can create topics and one for who can reply to topics. For each of these select 'custom' which should then give the option 'Only members with the minimum rank' and if you select the rank for 1 post, it will only allow members who have at least one post to create topics and reply to threads.

If a new user with 0 posts is blocked from creating a thread or post until they have 1 post, how on earth are they going to create that first post???

Since the OP's question was "restrict new members on my forum from being able to create threads until they have posted at least once", for Craig's suggestions, only the permission for creating threads would need to be adjusted. The reply to threads can be left as is.
