neat, how long will that take?
I also found something about verifying a website with google, it says about uploading a html file onto the page, is that possible with proboards?

It's not possible to upload an HTML file to the directory they want you to add it to.
You would need to use the method that requires you to add a meta tag to the page's HTML and include it before the closing </head> tag in Themes > Layout Templates > Forum Wrapper.

I have to also add that if you are expecting your forum to appear through keyword search, adding it to google may not give you instant results! It takes time for bots to crawl your forum and pick out the appropriate keywords based in your forum content, so do not be surprised if your forum doesn't appear for google searches that don't include your exact URL.

ah, so is there no other way to make it show up? just got to wait a while for it to appear? Basically. Even if you look at Googles "submit URL" page, they note: We don't add all submitted URLs to our index, and we can't make predictions or guarantees about when or if submitted URLs will appear in our index. While it may help, there's not a whole lot of point (in my opinion) to submitting your site to google. If you advertise and post your link wherever you're allowed, and have content the bots can index, you should start seeing results over time. Bear in mind that your ranking may take a long time to increase as well. It took literal years for my site to be listed on the first page of results for our search query, and we lucked out due to a great URL. Your site may appear on google, but on page... 20, for example. Without loads of money, there's really no 100% sure-fire guaranteed way to make sure your site appears on google quickly. There are things you can do to help it along (submitting your site to google, putting meta tags in your <head> tags, and so on) but a lot of it is a waiting game. Some more info on submitting sites to google: linchpinseo.com/why-submit-your-sitemap-to-google/www.seomark.co.uk/submit-website-to-search-engines/And what not to do: smartblogger.com/seo-mistakes/

ah, alright, thanks for the help :) Guess I'll have to advertise on places I'm allowed, like you said I would recommend it -- the more places your site link appears, the more opportunity that google bots have of discovering it! Affiliates & ad boards on other, already established forums & websites (especially if they are popular websites for your subject) can be a huge boon since they're already receiving traffic. For example, our site is an affiliate of our subject's wikia, and we get a good chunk of bot traffic from there.

I've been trying to get my forum set up as above, but try as I may, I can't seem to get it right - I keep getting the message: "Your verification file was not found in the required location." Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

roytwing, You bumped another person's thread from 2017. Please create your own thread regarding this issue as it is not appropriate to bump an old thread even when you have the same issue as someone else.
