I'm just glad to hear that you have worked on it! My members keep asking questions about how do we know who won. So there is still a lot of interest in this game. Thanks so much for anything you do for it. Much appreciated.

lol, I love this plugin

I've always crazily just wrote down all the numbers of the members active during that time [as in logged in while the scav was running]  

then post winners that way.

Just an update for all the Scavenger Hunt fans:

I'll be gone until Sunday, but I now believe that the leaderboard's completion is now within sight (with a HUGE thanks to Peter!). I will be working on it after I return home Sunday.

A couple things to note, however:

- The leaderboard will be utilizing HTML for its display - so I would strongly suggest that it get placed on a custom page - since HTML will not work in posts.
- The leaderboard will require space for a super key. Yes, this means that the Scavenger Hunt plugin will require a total of 3 keys (2 super; 1 regular):

• Private User Key (already being used, so no additional space necessary)
• Super User Key (already in use, so no additional space necessary)
• Super Forum Key (NEW - will need space for a super key on your forum)

Once completed, the Scavenger Hunt plugin will be submitted to the Library as Version 1.0.0. This is important. Since previous versions of plugins can be downloaded, it will be easier to note that any version lower than 1.0.0 will NOT have the leaderboard (and thus only requires the 2 keys already being used), whereas version 1.0.0 (and up) will require 3 keys (as listed above). This information will also be added to the plugin's description.

I am hoping that it is indeed the light at the end of the tunnel I am seeing and that I will finally be able to get this (long-awaited) addition out to you very patient people (to which I am very much appreciative of).

I will NOT promise any ETA. However, I am trying for a goal for the end of this month - but no promises. I have been given the knowledge, but it's still going to require testing to insure that all works as intended before I can release it.

Again, I thank all of you for your continued patience. I truly hope that your waiting will soon be over.

You can set up custom pages at any time, so some may want to set them up early. If you need help, please check out these Help Guide articles:

The Page Title and ID are NOT needed for the plugin, so you can use whatever you want there. Once a custom page is created, it's time to add a widget:

The only widget you need for the Scavenger Hunt plugin will be an HTML Box widget - as that's where you'll be placing the <div>.

UPDATE:

The leaderboard version is FUNCTIONAL! However, before I submit it to the library, I would like to get 3 or 4 active forums to test it for me and provide feedback. Here is what you need to know BEFORE requesting participation:

(1) You MUST have room for an additional SUPER key, as this version has added another super key for the leaderboard;

(2) Your forum should be active enough so as to populate the leaderboard. Users are NOT added to the leaderboard until they click on a prize. This means that users need to collect a prize before they are added to the leaderboard;

(3) Note that I'm mostly looking for feedback of functionality. You can make suggestions to the leaderboard's display (I'm thinking of making it a table), but I am mostly concerned with making sure it's functioning properly;

(4) You agree to NOT give out the PBP file to anyone during testing. Once testing is done, and any fixes done (if needed), I'll be submitting it to the Plugin Library. This clause is to just keep track so I know who is testing for me.


You will need to create a custom page that has an ID of scavenger-hunt - you do not need to add an HTML widget, as the leaderboard will simply get added to the page. The leaderboard will ONLY work on a custom page with the above ID.

To request participation for testing, you will need to (temporarily) register on my Codes N Designs test forum - you may freely leave the forum after testing, if you so desire. Once registered, go to your profile page and petition to join the SH Test Group on your Groups tab. Once joined, you'll have access to a board named Scavenger Hunt Testing Grounds - further instructions will be there.

PLEASE NOTE: You MUST be the root admin of the forum that you will be testing this on.

I'm willing to give this a try, but it's going to take me a couple days to accomplish all the things you need of me. And a big issue for me is, do I have to clear my user data? I have a hunt going on right now so I could test during this active hunt. But I don't want to wipe everybody's counters back to zero.

You do NOT have to clear the keys. When you import version 1.0.0, it'll let you know that it found another plugin using those keys - select UPDATE from the dropdown:



At the next prompt, select Yes:



Finally, select the current version you're running from the dropdown:




You current key data will remain intact, so no one will lose their current count. Just be sure that you do not select Reset on the first prompt - that one will clear your key data, so just be careful when selecting.

That's on my to-do list so I will try and put all this together and coordinate with you. I actually have two different forums where this game is actively played. So we can run it on both of them.

I have no way of knowing which is more active. At least in terms of who is playing the game. But I will pick one for sure. They both probably have at least 20 people who are clicking if not more. And if I explain to them I need them to play more, they will.

I'll let you know when I start trying to do the things on your checklist. I'm sure I'll need some help! But for sure we will have at least one test site for you to monitor within the next couple of days. I'm excited!

I have about 15 members that participare in the Scavenger Hunt on a weekly basis, so I'm very interested in this test panel. But I'm rather busy with some other projects right now, so I have to return to the issue when my backlog is reduced.

Lynx, I believe I've taken the steps needed to start testing.

1. Bought a superkey (we already were using our allotted 2).

2. Created a custom page named scavenger-hunt and created a new tab on the forum for the Leaderboard that points to that custom page.

3. Joined your forum and requested to join the SH Test Group.

I think that is it. I'll rely on you to tell me when to actually install the newer software. Am I ready yet?
