Forum URL: gooroosgruntz.proboards.comLong ago, a new version of ProBoards renumbered threads. That caused me a considerable amount of work, because there are well over one hundred indices that are external to ProBoards, linking to threads within the Forum.
I can only pray that thread numbering will be unaffected.
Also, it used to be that when a thread was moved from and interim Board while the puzzle was being tested into its "final resting place", the thread number would remain the same. That changed so that now the thread number is updated to the next sequential number when the move takes place. That is merely an annoyance, since new puzzle Announcements are becoming fewer and further between, and it is easy to handle each movement as it happens.
But a mass renumbering would be a disaster!

Hi, GooRoo. Thread numbering is going to function exactly the same between both v5 and v6. A thread's number is never changed when the thread itself is moved. However, if you're moving every single individual post out of the old thread (rather than moving the thread itself) and into a new thread those posts will reside in the new thread which is given a new number because it's a new thread.

However, if you're moving every single individual post out of the old thread (rather than moving the thread itself) and into a new thread those posts will reside in the new thread which is given a new number because it's a new thread. What I have is a BETA testing Board where designers 'Announce' their work-in-progress. When the puzzle is completed and verified solvable (by a BETA tester) it is distributed to members desiring puzzles via email. And at that time, the entire thread is moved from the BETA Board into the Board for the graphics set used for the puzzle. At that time, the thread is (under the current system) renumbered as the next sequential numbered thread. As I say, that is a very minor annoyance, as it is no problem to update the indices (five of them) to reflect the "final resting place".

If you're getting a different thread number after the move I can only conclude that you're moving the posts and not the thread itself as that's the only way for a different thread ID to be assigned.
The correct moderator action to preserve the thread ID when moving a thread is Actions > Moderate > Move > Entire Thread.

Under a thread's gearbox, I have Moderate/Move/ ... but no 'move entire thread' ... instead there are four option as in this .

Those are the post options. I'm referring to the Actions dropdown found at the top of the thread next to its search bar, pictured at the top of your screenshot.
