So as not to give away too much information due to the nature of the reasoning behind the closure (though I will be happy to explain via email or PM to a mod/admin), a forum I'm a member of will be closing soon. I was hoping to create an archive from one or two subforums, so I can work on a little side project of linking old photos once stored on photobucket (which have been downloaded in an archive due to photobucket's change of tos) to old posts. Essentially this project will take me a lot longer than the forum will be available online for.
Though I am not currently a mod/admin on the forum, I can be given those powers by the forum creator, but I am hesitant to ask her for the upgrade until I'm certain I can actually download the archive and start this project, as I don't want to get her hopes up.
I can explain in more detail via PM or email if that helps, I know a lot of this is quite obscure, but is there a feature which allows the posts to be archived and downloaded?
Many thanks

Hi, avandra. You can download your own posts and PMs via your global account settings, but it's not possible to export someone else's posts.

Hi, avandra . You can download your own posts and PMs via your global account settings, but it's not possible to export someone else's posts. Hi Brian,
Hmm, thanks. I fear that might be the case. The main posting of threads in the sub I'm interested in has been done by about 10 people over the years, and it's about 82 pages worth, so even if I talked the forum creator through the process then we'd still be missing a good chunk.
Thanks all the same. I'll have to try and work quickly before they delete the forum. Is it possible to take a forum offline so no users bar the owner can look at posts/find the forum? That might be another solution and buy me some time, but for legal reasons people shouldn't be able to access the forum after a certain date.

The maintenance mode feature found in Settings > Forum Settings in the admin area makes it so that only the forum's staff can access the forum and its contents. The forum will remain online but only staff will be able to successfully log into it.

But no-one would be able to view old posts and threads, member or guest?

Only users that are part of a member group regarded as staff will be able to access the forum's contents. Members that aren't a part of any group meeting that criteria and unregistered guests will not be able to access it.
