"View Today's Birthdays" and deleted members

Our Admins send Happy Birthday emails to our members based on the "View Today's Birthdays" button on the Home page.  Recently, the View Today's Birthdays has had member names whom we have deleted as members to the Forum.  (No longer employed by our company, so we delete their memberships.)

It used to be that when we deleted a member, we no longer saw them pop up in the Today's Birthdays lists.  When I search the Member list, those people aren't there and are deleted, so I'm not sure why I'm getting them on the Birthday lists.  It is a bit of a problem because we don't want to send Happy Birthday messages if they are no longer employed by our company.  A bit awkward...

One example today is Jennifer Parker.  She is on the View Today's Birthdays list, but no longer listed as a member of our Forum as we deleted her back in May.

Hi, nancyalvarado.

If a user is listed in the member list and you can access their profile that suggests that they weren't deleted, as deleting a user would mean that neither of those would be the case.

You can view a log of member deletions in Security > Security Log in your forum's admin area by clicking on the All Logs dropdown and selecting Member Logs > Deletes.

Thanks - that helps somewhat, but I'm still a bit perplexed. I checked that Security Log and sure enough, Jennifer Parker was not deleted at any time in May as expected.

However, when I do a search for her name in the Member list, her name does *not* pop up. I get 6 other Jennifers, but not her. I am assuming that the Admin that was in charge of deletions didn't find her and therefore just assumed she was already deleted/never made an account, and thus couldn't delete.

Is there some other way to find members other than going to Forum > Members > List and then using the Search there? The only way I can find her account currently is in the View Today's Birthdays list.

ETA:  If I scroll through the 8 pages of Members on our Member List, I can see her listed, but not when I use the Search on the top of the member list.  So a problem perhaps with the Search?

Could it be you are searching for display name instead of username? Usernames do not have spaces in them like nancyalvarado. A display name can be different.

I considered that. I searched for Jennifer and Parker (her display name is Jennifer Parker) and also searched for her username jenniferparker. Searching for Jennifer gave me 6 other Jennifers, but I never found her with any of those searches.  In fact, when I looked at the member list, there are actually 9 Jennifers and not the 6 that showed up in the search.

I also then tried searching for "Nancy" in the Forum since I know for a fact there are 2 Nancy's in our forum -- myself and another. When I searched for Nancy, it did show me, but not the other Nancy. But when I scrolled through the membership list (thankfully in alphabetical order!), I was able to verify that the other Nancy was indeed on the Member list.

That usually indicates a search issue rather than the member being deleted.

I've submitted a user reindex request to the search server associated with your forum. Give it a few minutes and then try doing another user search to see if the users are searchable again.

Thanks Brian! It works! The search now pulls up all 9 Jennifers!
