Some of our members have noticed that very occasionally, the order of posts in a thread has changed for no apparent reason. Anyone know why this might happen?

Hi, majormajor. Posts should always be ordered chronologically. The only instances in which a post would appear in a different spot than where it originated is if another post before it was deleted or if posts from another thread were merged into the thread.

Hi Brian -
Thanks for the response.
Yes, one would think so. But we've had several instances where we've been told of this. The most recent one was reported by one of our moderators just this morning:
"I have been interested in the Topaz resizing thread. Coming on this morning I created a post following Frank's post about dpi/ppi. When I came back later I noticed that my post now appeared above Frank's. I checked with Simone who also had observed the change of order. I asked Sepiana if she had moved my post. She said she hadn't..."

As far as I can tell the data pertaining to that thread is perfectly synchronized between our main and backup servers, so even in scenarios where it could be expected to happen I don't see any inconsistencies in the forum's database which would cause it. Both sets of data are identical, so there's no case where a separate set of data with a potentially different post order would be loaded.

Is there any possibility Frank deleted his post, then posted a new version after the later reply was posted? If such a thing happened, the security logs would indicate a delete of the post, who deleted it, the post id (number) and the thread from which it was deleted.

I will also point out that it's impossible to manually reorder posts in a thread, even if Sepiana had tried. Doesn't explain why it happened, but that's one way it *couldn't*.

Yes, we know that. Hence the query.
