Forum URL: nemesisinvestigators.proboards.com/
This is a pretty specific problem and if nobody has a particularly helpful answer, I will understand but any and all help is appreciated!
So, I run a Roleplay Forum and we use character sprites on our posts for flavour-purposes and previously, we'd use Mozilla Firefox because when you "Previewed" the image on a reply-box, it had sliders on every side so that you could manually scale it to fit to a certain size. Since all the sprites are scaled the same way, we'd just use the sliders to make a tall character "Taller" and a small character "Shorter" so that when put next to each other in a post, it'd be fitting. [Edit: I use this to scale literally everything on my site, including graphics, gifs and other media, so it's kind-of a big deal]
But for some reason, clicking on it now makes an image react as though it's just text and clicking on it makes it drag around or highlight blue. This is sort-of a problem since it means that I can't correctly scale characters the way it's meant to be and as far as I'm aware, no other browser really 'worked this way', so I can't switch to a different browser to rescale them.
I'm not a coder or a programmer by any means and I'm just wondering if anybody has a solution or a fix or even a reason why it's not working anymore?
[Image is related, these are the sprites we use for context and I also can't rescale the image 'up' or 'down' or even click on it the way it let me do before.]

Same problem here, I haven't looked into a solution yet so I'll follow this thread.

Have you tried using an image resizer and then just having a set scale for the images? Or am I misunderstanding the issue?

previously, we'd use Mozilla Firefox because when you "Previewed" the image on a reply-box, it had sliders on every side so that you could manually scale it to fit to a certain size. Hi Miserable Orange I have an ancient computer running XP and Firefox ESR 52.0.0 I fired it up and grabbed a screenshot of how things once worked. I've used the image for the editor Link button in this example. In the Preview Mode, if you click on the image, a border defining the image along with eight squares would appear.
Scaling the link button image that way would result in the BBCode looking like this: [img style="max-width:100%;" src="http://storage.proboards.com/forum/images/bbcode/link.png" alt=" " width="82" height="70"] With my current computer running Firefox Quantum 64.0, I am unable to do this. I definitely do NOT recommend blindly using an older version of Firefox. This could have vulnerabilities which have been fixed. However you might contact Firefox and see if there is an ESR version which has updated security but also has older features.

I know what you're trying to say but the problem is that because of how I size it, all the image scales would be different sizes and finding consistency would be hard since I would have to manually "Add" or "Subtract" pixels at a time. The issue is a bit complex I guess, sorry. @kelvin It's not just one thread, it's an entire system I was using on Proboards through Firefox to rescale images without having to go through a finicky or tedious pixel-by-pixel system of resizing an image.
[In this really specific example, I use it to scale new characters that are added, so I've not been able to add new characters since it stopped working]
Yes, it was similar to that! I found this screenshot on my site that I made about two years ago. This is essentially what it looked like until very, very recently, and I mean as recently as a month ago. It's entirely possible that it's just something that Firefox had patched out in an update that happened but it's mildly messed up my system. I'm just wondering if it'd be possible to use something similar (through plugins or the like) or even if I could find a way to use an earlier version of Firefox.
I think if it's just an issue that the browser has patched out, then I'm not really sure what I can do. I just know some other folk would use this very same system and any advice would be brilliant on to how to get it 'working' again.

Just for clarification, this is a Firefox browser issue and not a ProBoards issue. Firefox has deprecated this feature: Firefox-specific HTML editing UI has been deprecatedCraig, I tried the add-on you linked, and unless I'm doing it wrong it doesn't work for what the op is trying to do. It will temporarily resize an image on an already submitted post, however refreshing the page returns the image to the original size.

Craig, yea based on my google search sounds like a users are not happy about this. I found a configuration setting that seemed to restore that function, yet everything I tested with the setting enabled yielded undesirable results. However from what I've read it sounds like even this configuration setting may disappear in future releases, so probably best just to get used to the way FF is now.

I'm not a coder by any means and I'm a little worried of messing with my forum but where is the "Global Header" on the forum and I'll add that in.
[EDIT]
I found where the Global Header was located on my forum but I still can't really seem to resize things, even when I do that. Maybe I've not done it correctly but I think this is correct.

I tried that script in the Global Header on my test forum and also was unable to get the expected result. Perhaps Chris is using a somewhat earlier version of Firefox or something? Hopefully he'll see your relply and take another look.

Just a note, I have not used firefox in years but I sorta recall the feature and you must click on the image to get the resizer handles to show up The about:config setting Scott mentioned below used to be true but is now false as of version 64 so you can either set it back to true (for yourself only) or use the above script to re-enable the feature for all firefox (and derivative) users. The initial plan was to phase the feature out altogether but recent discussion suggests it may be kept in this disabled-by-default state instead since there are some corporate intranets that depend on this feature so they can easily re-enable it with a script similar to the one above. If you have a guest friendly (can post) url with the script install you can PM it to me so I can take a look.

If you have a guest friendly (can post) url with the script install you can PM it to me so I can take a look. Hey Chris I did just that. Set up a board on my test forum to allow guest posting. To my surprise, the script achieves the desired result when posting as a guest, but NOT while I was logged in. Hmmmm.... After a bit of investigation, I discovered the Profile Setting: Posting Default set to BBCode inhibits the ability to resize. (I have no clue as to why, just that it does.) So the 'fix' is for the user to set their posting default to Preview and the script will function as-advertised.
