As you look at some job fields or professions, do you think that it is ultimately easier to date someone in the same field?
I always wonder why celebrities tend to date other celebrities, but maybe that makes it that much easier? They know the grind, the constant cameras, the high publicity of everything they do. It seems like there are some other professions that have this mindset as well.
Does your profession seem to have a lot dating between colleagues? Did you date/marry someone in your field?

I think celebrities date celebrities for the same reason as I date "regular people." I can't say I come into contact with or associate with celebrities, other than when they reply to me on social media. I've never dated someone in the same profession, but I've always dated someone who wasn't famous. A general rule seems to be to never dip your pen in the company ink. I think it's more about social class and less about their specific job.

That's one of the more elegant ways of saying it. :p Dating within the same company or a vendor dating an employee of the company (s)he sells to can lead to huge problems if the dating ends poorly. Other than that, dating within the same profession isn't necessarily a bad thing. For instance, lawyers dating other lawyers is probably better than inter-species dating.

I should have been more clear. When I think of colleagues, I mean anyone in the field, not necessarily in the same office or company.

I always discourage the idea, if you have a bad break up your coworkers are bound to hear some false stories. Now say you work different shifts it might be a maybe for me. I dont see it so much as a rule that should be applied by company more so it could ruin trust or even your job.

I don't think it's necessarily easier to date someone in the same profession as much as it's easier to meet someone in the same profession. People in the same profession tend to run in the same circles. The celebrity circle itself I believe is a different breed altogether. I mean yes they meet via the celebrity circle as you often hear of film stars dating after they met and worked together on a film. But also in the case of celebrities it could be a trust issue. By dating someone that is also a celebrity there is not a concern that the other is with them for the star status, as they both would have that. And there's a whole host of other issues that come with star status, which is probably why a lot of those relationships don't always seem to work out. Of course being the spotlight doesn't really give a couple a fair chance of working through the rough patches. I personally would rather date someone not in my same profession. If I was a lawyer dating a lawyer, at the end of the day swapping work stories, I'd rather hear about something other than the same. Granted there would be a greater understanding of what the other was going through, however if you are with the right person, then that wouldn't be an issue.

It depends on the field in question and how one perceives the idea of it. When considering compatibility of a partner, everyone has to own spectrum. Personally, I don't see whether a candidate is in the same field or not has a big impact on attraction. Maybe if the person who's seeking enjoy their job field, I can see how that would contribute to their attraction for those in the same field. Other who hate their field may probably shy away from others in that field.

I agree with Scott, I think it has far more to do with ease of meeting than ease of dating. You're more apt to meet people in your profession. And I think this is especially true for those in white-collar professions, as you're more apt to attend conferences, trainings, etc.
This is entirely disregarding dating coworkers. I'm not sure that's ever a good idea, really.

It would definitely be easier to meet someone in the same field. I have never really dated anyone in my field, unless you broadly categorize it as a non-profit profession. Like you, Scott, I guess I prefer someone who has different experiences overall than me.

Considering there are only two nuclear medicine technologists in this town, myself and my female coworker, there's no chance in my lifestyle situation of dating a coworker in the same field, LOL.

My wife and I have never worked the same job before.
We met at a 7 Eleven when we were both in line.

I dated him, ended up moving in with him, and we've been together 19 years later.
