Forum URL: vote-2012.proboards.com/I recently gave one of my forum users a 24 hour ban, and he has come back to me by private message to say that the only message he received was "You have been banned from this forum", which could have been construed as a permanent ban. Not only that but he was unable to log in to find any explanation as to what the ban was for or for how long it would be active. Is there a way to inform people that their ban is temporary without having to send them a message in advance or e-mailing them directly? If not there seems to be some danger of people assuming their bans are permanent when in fact they are only been given a short exclusion. Thank you.

Hello, I'm afraid there's no way to change the ban message they see. Perhaps you could send them an e-mail informing them of the temporary suspension before you do it? Usually I'd suggest requesting a plugin to see if anyone can help you out, but if I recall no forum data is sent to banned users (this includes plugins), so it wouldn't matter. Something else you might want to explore is using the warning system to graduate people through levels of 'being warned', so that it should come as no surprise they have a ban when they reach 90% or something like that.

swanfromshipley, when you banned the member did you include an expiration? If so, when the member attempts to log in directly to the forum, they should encounter the Select Account page which will indicate that the account is banned and include the date/time the ban expires. Noted however that the dashboard does not include the expiration details. For that I will mark this thread as a feature request.
