How to offer bold text option on quick reply

How do I get the format options to show up in reply section?

I get the choices to show up but they don’t work. I am using an iPad, is that the problem?

barneybc12d, using an iPad shouldn’t make a difference.
I used my iPad for this reply and was able to format with the buttons.

Are you able to use the buttons while using the full reply editor?

Not sure what full reply editor is. If it is the other reply button on the thread, still doesn’t work.

barneybc12d , so just to clarify, if you type a word, then select it, and press the bold button , nothing happens?

I typed in testing , selected it, hit bold, and I get this.     testing

barneybc12d, ok it is showing bold in your post. Is this not the the result you were expecting?

When I hit create post it changed to bold, before that it showed testing

barneybc12d, the issue is you are using the bbcode editor rather than the preview editor. BBCode editor shows the raw post with the bbcode tags that define the chosen format styling.

Go to your Profile, click the Edit Profile button, then go to the Settings tab. Scroll down until you see the section for Posting Default. Click on the Preview option and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Save Account Settings button.

It only changes it to bold when I hit create post.  When I select a word and hit bold, special character are placed in front and after the word. It only changes to bold when I hit reply.

barneybc12d, ah sorry I forgot the quick reply will not default to preview.   

This is how the quick reply editor works. You will see the bbcode tags until the post is submitted. If you want to see the preview of how the post will look already rendered, then you would need to click the Reply button and use the full editor to create your post.  With the settings change I gave you above you will see the style applied (previewed) as you create the post.
