So, last week I quit my job. I know there will be some who don't understand, my parents have already shown me that, but it was necessary. For those who don't know, I was the door monitor at the hospital, the person who had to enforce the mask rule. I was forced to endure the bad behavior of very frustrated and angry people, I had the Nazi salute given to me several times, had unmasked people 3 inches from my face shouting at me, was told I was doing the devil's work, had masks waved in my face in defiance, called names I won't repeat here, and so much more. As a result, I began losing my hair to stress, my blood pressure was sky high, I had abdominal issues, chest pressure, I cried before work and after, and had nightmares every time I tried to sleep. It had to stop. Yes, it's put us in a financial strain, but it was ruining my health, both mentally and physically. Depression was putting me in a very dark place. So, I ask you all, even if you don't like what I did, to try to understand, and to support and love me. I need that right now. I also ask that you be kind to those just doing their jobs, even if you don't agree with the rules, so that no one else has to go through what I have had to endure.

So, I ask you all, even if you don't like what I did, to try to understand, and to support and love me. Marian, I will always support, love, and appreciate you and Jim. It saddens me to hear that you've been stressed this way. But I'm certain you will heal and find comfort in knowing the value of the service you've provided to the world. Both in your occupation and your art.

Sorry you're having to go through that, Marian. Definitely understand.
I would have thought that there'd be less hostility in a healthcare setting, but I'm not entirely surprised. 2020 has unmasked in a very literal way the people who lack empathy and kindness towards strangers.
In case you haven't, apply for unemployment. I'd be surprised if a case like yours is declined in this environment. All the best to you.

So sorry you had to deal with that. I can understand why you quit. People are so rude.

They say a job is a second home if you're unhappy move out take it from me. I'd rather be jobless then be mistreated by people. Will say that a better thing going on with covid is more remote jobs are being offered so with your resume I doubt you'll have much of an issue finding one you enjoy. Just a recommendation. In home work can be delressing on the mind but at the same time it's no contact with people and you may come to enjoy it.

wildmavenI am so sorry you had to go through such a disgusting barbaric display from twits who're supposed to from a civilised society. The work you were doing was of vital importance and this infantile behaviour will catch up with them. TRUMP has a lot to answer for. I SALUTE ALL FRONTLINE WORKERS ON THE EXCELLENT WORK THEY'RE DOING.

wildmavenYou have absolutely no judgement at all, my friend. Any job that makes you feel those things is a job that needs to be left behind. I'm so sorry those people treated you so badly. I'm so sorry that there are people so incapable of forward thinking. I'm so sorry that it has become a politicized mess and that the insane are the ones fighting so hard against simple measures to keep everyone safe. I'm sorry you were positioned directly in front of those savages. I have so many sorries for you. But I'm also proud of you for stepping away. Proud that you took your own health into account and did what you needed to help yourself. I am proud of you!

I'm so sorry that you had to put up with all this unsavory behavior from a bunch of losers, Wildmaven. You did the right thing to walk away and I completely support your stance. Your physical health and emotional well-being are more important than a job which is so abusive. I hope that you continue to heal now that you left that toxic position. *hugs* One thing I've learned from this whole pandemic is how rude and self-centered people are. It's all about them and no one else. The hospital I work at has security guards posted at each door and if you don't wear a mask and get your temperature checked each time you walk into the hospital, you don't go in (this goes for staff as well). We have had a few cases now where people were escorted out of the hospital for belligerent behavior and refusing to adhere to the hospital precautions. It's a sad state of affairs to be sure, but it's the bad eggs which ruin it for everyone. Hang in there, and I hope that better times are ahead of you in 2021.

I don't blame you. I work in a hardware store, nowhere near as important as medical and when I merely suggest putting on a mask I get sworn at, yelled at, and called a ..Liberal sheep?
They don't seem to know or care what's going on. People really need to read that post on imgur of the man who was on a respirator and his last words here..

No job is worth your peace of mind, sense of security, sense of worth, or your happiness. Good on you for walking away from that and shame on the administration for not providing security to back you up and shoot that disgusting and childish behavior down.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It's unfortunate that your employer did not offer the support you needed to do your job well. I don't understand how people can be so cruel. There are many jobs out there. Good for you for taking care of yourself.

I don't understand how people can be so cruel. Most people aren't like that but the few who are can make life miserable for others. It's not difficult to understand the frustration many are experiencing during these troubled times. A rare few transfer their frustration for the current situation on anyone they perceive in a position of authority. That's no excuse for unacceptable behavior but helps explain why some people are acting-out.

I hope nobody has been judging your reason for quitting. No one should have to go through any of the abuse thrown at you, especially during a pandemic. Whenever I see videos of people getting mad at store employees for telling them to wear a mask, and I see them getting violent, I feel so much for the workers. I’m sorry you had to go through all that, and I hope you’re in a better place mentally since quitting. Best of luck on the next step.

Appalling that such a situation developed. Unfortunately, though, it’s not surprising. Those scary people are being emboldened. Social media is feeding the deranged conspiracy theorists and the leader of the most powerful western country, is actively discouraging the wearing of face coverings and seems to be fine with the rising COVID body count. For your mental and physical health, you made the right move. I hope your situation will be much improved, soon.💜
