Okay, I have a confession. I have been using proboards for....well, a long time and never once thought to actually introduce myself. I know, I know, I am a horrible person. However, that will change, starting with this post. I want to be more involved in this community, so here goes.

My former name is Joel, but I have recently made the change to Emma. As you can probably tell, I am very LCBTQ supportive and while I am very happy to have started this journey, I am also very scared! That being said, any tips and support would be appreciated.

I live in Kansas for the moment, but originally from Virginia. I work as a mental health therapist, specializing in child trauma and play therapy. So, I am more than happy to give advice and support as well as get it!

I also live in kansas, I've been part of the community for 14 years now or so and have never introduced myself I don't think. Although there is a specific sub board for welcome threads. I wouldn't advise telling strangers online your issues regardless of your occupation.
Just because I could say I'm a billionaire that's offering everyone free money if they give me their routing numbers. I'm not saying you would lie but its the internet and you have to really get to know someone before giving personal information out like that.

While I do see your point, my only intention was to introduce myself and break the ice so to speak. I can be VERY awkward at times, so if this was the wrong thing to do or the wrong place to post it, I sincerely apologize. I was just trying to be friendly.

I work in the medical field in Pediatrics and have had some LGBTQ and transgender patients in my clinic. I'm sure it has been both an emotional but also wonderful journey for you. I wish you all the best with it.

That's also wonderful that you work as a mental health therapist specializing in Pediatrics. The need for mental health services has risen exponentially since this whole pandemic began and I'm always wishing there were more Pediatric providers in my neck of the woods as sometimes my patients have to wait months for an appointment. 

So thanks for all you do for your patients!

Agreed and understood. I never intended on providing actual therapy. It is against my code of ethics and I could get in serious trouble for it. I was just meaning to be friendly. I apologize for any misunderstanding, and honestly, I am kinda regretting this post in general.

Emma O Welcome to the forum! It's nice to have an intro from people. I can see you were only being friendly. There are many boards that offer 'help' in the form of articles, personal stories, etc so that is the way I personally took your intro.
