I cannot seem to get hired and it’s so frustrating. I’ve worked since I was 13 (I am 56 now) and I have always had steady employment until the pandemic. I hate not feeling productive. 😕

Approximately the last 15 months. The events industry is finally starting to come back online though, so it’ll probably be roughly 18 months before I can say I’m finally fully employed again.

I am just glad I am retired now, and don't have to worry about work. When I was working, I have never been unemployed for more than a month maybe, like when I was in between 2 jobs.

About 4 months, in between university graduation and my first graduate job. I think the people I know have mostly been kept in jobs by the furlough scheme in the UK, or have been lucky enough to find temporary jobs before their real ones start up again. A couple of family members work in events/entertainment like Inkjet, and have gone from job to job (retail, factory, fast food delivery...and now one of them is involved in covid testing) just waiting for event bookings to start up again. One family member got made redundant, but he was close to retirement anyway so other than being stuck at home with nothing to do rather than the travelling he intended to do in retirement, it’s not been all bad.
Good luck to anyone still job hunting, or waiting for their jobs to be viable again.

Birth to around 13 was my longest stretch. Since I have been working, I think maybe a month or two (usually combined with a move somewhere). Otherwise, I always feel like I'm working and many of my positions have overlapped.

I hate not feeling productive. 😕 Sorry to hear that Maven. I know a couple people in various medical fields that are in the same boat. Then on the contrary, in automotive, I cannot find enough help. I have half a dozen positions I am hiring for. And the candidate pool is super slim. Though if you listen to economic reports, you'd think the field would be ripe with applicants. As for your question- fortunately I haven't been unemployed since 2010. Much of the past 11 years have been with the same dealership group.

Joined the military at 17, then as a reserve I got my first civilian job and only have switched once. I quit a job at midnight and was officially hired at 1201.

So applying for jobs outside of my field is very difficult because employers seem to want young employees or see me as “overqualified.”
