Forum URL: theotherfrenchforum.freeforums.netSomeone has recently posted a link to a topic on the same forum, however clicking on that link opens the page in a new tab. If the link is to a thread/topic on the same forum, but in a different category/board to that of the post in which the link is given, is there a manipulation I can make so that the in-forum link opens in the same page? Thanks in advance.

Normally, this would be a link in a post to a link on the same forum: hiding-soft-deleting-contentious-postsand looks like this: [a href="/thread/667940"]hiding-soft-deleting-contentious-posts[/a]
By adding a target="_self" to the anchor tag, you can force it to remain on the same tab it was clicked on. It would look like this: [a href="/thread/667940" target="_self"]hiding-soft-deleting-contentious-posts[/a]
and act like this: hiding-soft-deleting-contentious-posts

I understand that, MSG, and what I was wondering about is the possibility of adding a manipulation to the forum's code so that any such 'local' link opens in the same page; essentially, can I add somewhere in the forum's coding a target="_self" so that all 'local' links act like that.
I can do it myself by editing the bbcode in my personal posts, but you can't expect every forum member to have the knowledge and/or confidence to do that for their own posts each time they refer to another post in the same forum.

You could try adding this to your global footer:
<script type="text/javascript"> // make internal posted links open in same tab $(document).ready(function(){ $(" .posts .message a[href*='ABC'] ").attr("target","_self"); }); </script>
It should make all the internal links open in the same tab.
Replace the ABC with the link to your forum.

A quick BTW, is there any quick way to add a thumbs up smiley to the smiley display?

There is. Do you have the image you want to use? If so, if you go to your image page in your admin area: admin > themes > theme managerClick on the theme name to edit it, and then click on the Images tab. On that page, scroll down to the Smilies section and you should see an option to Add New Image. You can either link to the image or upload it directly. If you have more than one theme you will need to repeat that for each theme. If you run in to any issues, let me know

ffs, sorry there is not a way to add anything to our themes on this forum. Using the image link like you did in your post is the best way to add/use that smilie.

My apologies then. However, you had not stated that you wanted it to affect all posted links globally without needing the inline code to do that in your original post - hence why my response is as it was.
