Favorite Character? Favorite type of RP?

Do you have a favorite character that you created or played? Or a favorite type of roleplaying site?

I'll answer first, I suppose. My favorite character is one that I adopted from an original HP family. While the name, age, and circumstances (she was adopted into the family) were not created by me, the rest of her history and personality are. Her story is one of self-discovery and figuring out who her true family is.

My favorite thing to RP right now is Harry Potter.

I have been RPing online since the late 80's, so it's hard to pick a single character. I haven't RPed for over a year now, but I used to run a Star Trek RP, and I've also RPed on other SciFi/Fantasy sites as well as ones for Harry Potter and Star Wars. I love playing the villain. My most recent favorite was a science officer who was very socially inept. He was a lot of fun to play.

In the early 90's, long before it was the norm to have to go through the acceptance process for characters, I'd pop in to various RPs where I saw a need and randomly played minor characters who were basically reacting to what they were seeing. I gained a following and people actually asked me to jump into their RPs to help fill a temporary need. I did Jar Jar Binks in the middle of a fight scene that turned out pretty epic, a janitor who kept having to clean up after a battle, etc.

I miss RPing, it was a huge part of my creative life, but I don't miss the stress involved with running my own site or playing on sites with major, real life writer drama. I have lost count of the number of times a writer took personally what my character said to their character, like they were the personification of how I viewed them in real life. We're creating a story, for goodness sake! Bizarre. If someone has their mental health wrapped up in a character, I'm not the problem.

The RPs I hate are those that are overly structured. You don't have to RP the entire structure of, say, a starship. We don't need to see the officer's meetings, which are boring as can be. Allude to the fact that they happened, but don't make the members RP it.

My favorite RPs are ones where the admins throw you curve balls, where the entire plot isn't spelled out, where there are surprises. How is it fun if the entire progression of a plot is already known? Not very, at least to me. I know some need that kind of structure, but I guess I'm a fly by the seat of your pants type of writer.

I have a few characters that I created and played over the years. But never got to use them all that much. 
They were for Harry Potter role-plays. 
My favorite roleplaying site is Proboards. And my favorite type of Role-play is actually Torchwood since I always failed with Harry Potter role-plays.

My display name here was my OC. The Type of RP was Final Fantasy 7 or any other one. But mainly FF7.

It's now my name anywhere and everywhere, except Twitter and Instagram because someone decided to steal my name and won't give it up. Lol (changed my name at one point for something else, wanted to change it back, and found out I couldn't.)

Otherwise, yeah my character was based off of black mages in Final Fantasy, and sort of based off of Dark Magician from Yu-Gi-Oh.


I pretty much quit in 2010 when real life came, and I had no time, dealing with a psycho ex, and a lot of health problems stopped me from role playing.

I've actually tried role-playing but my creative juices are gone for that, and are used up elsewhere.

Harry Potter as well and even Star Wars among others but I haven't been involved in RPs in a long time. I have seen RPs around already established storylines and characters of series and that definitely wasn't enjoyable, to me at least. 

And then there's my oc who's a literal oracle/celestial being. :3
