New icon

How do I change colors of the new posts icon in a different theme

Hi

Could you confirm which new posts icon you mean. Is it the little rounded box with the word new in or is it the folder icon with new on it?

The word new next to new posts not the folder

Great.  Ok, you should be able to change that in your visual editor:

admin > themes > advanced styles and css

You want the Body ( Content ) > New Icons

Any problems, let us know

nothing shows up in the preview when I change colors

Do I have to save first and risk making a mess

vank - the preview should show the color change before saving. Note you will need to have an item marked as new for it to show in the preview.

To add to this, you also need to make sure the preview pane is showing the inside of a board -- make sure you click into one that has new threads. If you're on the home page when you make this change, the preview won't automatically adjust to the area you're targeting.
