Hidden B-Day Shown on Calendar [Done - Future Enhancement?]

Forgive me if this is the wrong place. I was blind to a proper 'bug report' area/link ^^; This is not for v6.

We noticed today, upon wishing some members a happy birthday on our v5 forum, that one of them has their birthday marked as hidden but it still shows in the calendar. This isn't so-far an issue for us, but I know some people can have a strong feeling about personal information being exposed when they've set it to not be.

It's possible this could happen if the member recently changed their birthday visibility preference in their profile.

Go to Admin > Settings > Calendar and for the Display Birthdays option set it to No. After you see the green "saved", change the setting back to Yes. This should reset the cache so that member's birthday no longer shows on the calendar.

Unfortunately that did not work.

I have set that option twice, and even disabled the whole calendar for a moment, but it still shows that member on the birthdays list. I've also cleared my own cache and refreshed their profile just in case it was just me at this point and they still have their birthday set to not show.

I received your PM.

That member has their birthday set to display on the forum.

I looked at their global account and there they do have it set as hidden. However in the global account edit it states:

"Changing your birthdate visibility here will only apply to your Global Account and will not change the visibility of the birthdates on your Forum Accounts."

The member would need to adjust this on a per forum basis by going to their Profile > Edit Profile, Privacy tab.

Ah! Good to know thank you. I never look at global account settings xD

A bit of a strange interaction. A plugin we have that adds a little icon to today's birthday accounts on the forum seems to respect the hidden setting set on the global account, and their forum profile does. Only the calendar seems to be an exception.

But not a big worry. Was mostly mentioning it in case it wasn't a known thing but it appears it is ^^ Now I can at least point to that warning text if any complaints come up.

Thanks for mentioning the strange interaction. I re-looked at the member's account and there actually may be something going on that shouldn't. I'll be discussing this with the developers.


UPDATE: I've edited that member's profile to set their birthday as hidden. It no longer shows on the calendar.
