Password protect entire forum

Is it possible to password protect the entire forum? So upon typing the url all you get is a box which asks for password to even view the site? I know you can password protect individual boards but thats not quite what i mean. I also know you can disable guest registering and make it display a big blue screen asking for guest login but thats not quite what I want either

Unfortunately is it not possible to password the whole forum in the same manner you would a board. The only option I can think of at the moment is the blue splash screen. If you explain more of what you are looking for there may be an alternative that'll work.
