Here in the Mojave desert, we're supposed to get absolutely hammered with rain this weekend due to the effects of the hurricane. Are you in the path of the storm? Have you made any emergency plans? Jim's filling sandbags tomorrow morning and cleaning out the gutters. We have plenty of emergency food in case the power goes out.

Been through a couple of hurricanes and storms as a young child in Jamaica. But, got through ok. Can’t recall them being too bad. Maybe because I was too young to fully understand the potential dangers. Keeping my fingers crossed that things don’t get too rough for you all. (((( ))))🍀

Being from the Midwest we get tornado scares constantly, I feel for people that have to live near the coast though we all remember the fear hurricane Katrina brought. To those going through any disaster stay safe, only acquire which supplies you personally need. Don't go crazy at the store keep others in mind.

We've prepared as best we could. Food and water, lots of backup batteries, etc. Kinda wish we had sand bags. I wonder how bad it's actually going to get. Our area isn't typically prone to flooding but if we get even half of what some forecasts have said it'll be rough.

Over here on the East Coast of the USA, hurricanes are quite common-as a matter of fact, I was named for one that hit my hometown very badly.
Anyway, Long Island protects us- a LOT. We had a bad one just after Greg, and I bought our first house, and I am thanking the Gods and Goddesses that we didn't buy the one that was on the beach *shiver*
Now all I have to worry about is the wetlands behind our house and our septic tank invading our home!

We have hurricanes or tropical storms all the time on the East Coast. I kind of expected the same to be true on the West Coat, but the news is saying you haven't had a storm like this since 1939. That surprises me. I hope you stay safe. I'm here for you in any way that I can offer support.

Generators should be kept 20 feet from the house, which would put it in our neighbor's yard.

I'd recommend something like this since gas generators are slowly phasing out there's always going to be a use for them though. Duracell Portable Power Station 300W (292Wh/120V) Lithium Battery Backup Portable Solar Generator (Solar Panel Sold Separately) for Power Outages, Home Emergency Kits, Camping, Backyard, and Outdoor a.co/d/fiHiBb1Not majorly powerful but enough to plug in a few electronics if a power bank isn't enough.

I've got something like this. It's a power bank made of four separate big batteries that I can use to power some tools (leaf blower, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, etc.) but when I put all the batteries in the charger it becomes a big backup battery. I think it's enough to keep something like the fridge going for a little while if necessary, someday I'd like to get a backup battery for the whole house, but those are still super pricey. I keep seeing the forecast changing on when the rain is support to start and the severity of the storm. Right now it's making me feel a little overprepared, but better that than the alternative I guess.

I've been meaning to buy one but rarely when power goes out it's just for an hour but that hour can feel like days depending on weather. Plus I need to look into newer furniture, dental work, other living expenses. Hopefully mother nature wipes out my home and I can collect renters insurance.

Good luck everyone in the US and Canada.
Where I am from we have had a few tornadoes in the past with the worst being an F5 which did quite a bit of damage and caused quite a bit of flooding.

Well, we just put out sandbags in front of the doors leading to the bedroom from outside. The water is getting too close for comfort.
Here's the flooding so far, and the worst is supposed to begin in a couple of hours.

Nope. Generators should be kept 20 feet from the house, which would put it in our neighbor's yard. Is that a local law and/or based on the type of generator you want? A few of my neighbors had "home standby" generators professionally installed, but they're all right next to theirs houses. Edit: I don't have a generator and know nothing about them.
