Invite registration not working for user

For my forum I have registrations disabled and registration approvals enabled. I have sent invite links to a group of people who I want to join. Most people have been able to successfully register this way with me approving them. However, one person who was sent the invite link receives a message saying registrations are closed and they are unable to proceed. I tried resending the invite link but they received the same error. I can't see any settings that could be causing this behaviour and as stated, it has worked with others. Any ideas please?

It sounds like perhaps their browser is stripping part of the link that contains the key information. If they are clicking the link in the email, could you ask them to instead try copying the link, opening a fresh window in their browser and then pasting the link. Do they still get the error? If so, could you ask them to copy the link in the address bar on the page that displays the error and feed it back to you. That may provide an indication to what is happening.
