Forum URL: bsn.boards.net/ProBoards Support, Forum Slowness/Slow to Refresh Pages This has been an ongoing issue for me for months now (since last year). I brought up the issue before, and I believe the last response from Support was that it was going to be investigated, but there has been no improvement. The forum is getting busier on the cusp of a new game release, so it's something I'm hoping can be addressed soon. Refreshing a page now takes 10-20 sec. Sometimes longer. Curiously, it will "behave" for a short amount of time after the first page refresh, but if I'm not refreshing the pages constantly, it'll revert to slow after a couple of minutes. I'm on a (high-end) PC, running Chrome (126.0.6478.127) and Gigabit service. Regards, Hrungr

hrungr - this is where things were left: Just chiming back in with an update. For me, the general board behaviour is much better now. I haven't had a page stall in over a week. The Notifications page lag still remains though. The last reload of the page took at least 20 sec, though sometimes it will load a little quicker. The only pending issue was notifications and since last November we've made multiple changes that should have improved this for you. I apologize we didn't follow up to say so. I was just browsing the site and everything - for me - is loading quickly, including your notifications page. And where I'm currently located my internet is not the fastest, so I would have expected lags but am not getting them. fwiw, having gigabit service does not rule out lags. There could be some deprioritization occurring. Something you might explore with your ISP. However I will tag Michael, who assisted you previously, in case he's aware of anything I am not regarding your notifications lag.

It is strange, and it's the only site I visit that lags for me.
And it is not just the notifications page seeing this lag anymore, it is site-wide.
But thank you tagging Michael. Hopefully, we can get this sorted out. I will also reach out to my ISP.

Hi hrungr, Not sure why this has continued to be an issue, I've passed this on to the Systems team.

Thanks Michael!
I haven't heard back from my ISP yet, and I'm trying some things on my own, but without success.

Whilst waiting. A couple of thoughts. What kind of slow loading is it? For example, does the page start to load but takes a while, or do you press refresh, or attempt to go to another page and it doesn't seem to attempt to load.

Since I usually have the tabs open to the pages I want, it's largely just refreshing the page. Whether I sit there and watch it or skip to another site while it loads, it's the same.
Though as I mentioned in my OP, it will "behave" for a short amount of time after the first page refresh, but if I'm not refreshing the pages constantly, it'll revert to slow after a couple of minutes.

The reason i asked about how it was loading is to see if it is perhaps something attempting to load on the page which is causing the issue. For example, something you may have in the plugins. It may be worth disabling javascipt for the site whilst you are experiencing the issue, and see if that makes a difference. Click the icon next to the url in the address bar > site settings > javascipt > block That should help determine if it is a script on the page causing the slowness. Also, have you tried browsing the forum in a different browser to rule out a browser issue.

Thanks for the suggestions, Craig!
- Blocking Javascript unfortunately didn't resolve it. - I'll try Firefox again. I tried this some months back when this was originally an issue, but it didn't help. I may even try reinstalling Chrome at this point. It's strange that it's just this one site though. - I've tried running Chrome on my Win10 drive last night, but it was still an issue there as well.

Okay, so I've tried a fresh install of Firefox (in Win11), with no extensions activated, and still the same issue.

hrungr - thanks for letting us know what you've tried. I'll pass this on to Michael. In the meantime, I caught that you mentioned having multiple tabs open. Do you notice a difference if it's just one tab (or two)?

Hi Scott,
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to make a difference if there's just the one tab open or thirty.

Hi hrungr, This happens with any page on the forum, correct? If I remember correctly this was originally just the notifications page of your profile? I'm now leaning towards the assumption that this might be some sort of throttling that you're getting hit with because of page refreshes.

Originally, it was site-wide (for everyone), but after the fix the slowness was limited to my Notifications page. Eventually, that changed and became site-wide again.
I did send an email to my ISP about it, but haven't heard back, so I may have to nudge them again.
Still find it strange that it's just the one site though. The forum is around the middle of the pack of the sites I visit in as far as the number of times I refresh it.
