Forum URL: (private) I've been the Admin of a forum for nearly 9 years now and at the beginning of it I installed the IP Lookup 0.0.7L Plugin. Which had worked fine until recently. The two buttons for that have vanished.
I tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it but that didn't help. I've looked for a solution for the problem in this support forum but was unable to find an answer that would correct the glitch.
I'd appreciate your help in solving this problem.

Hi I did an install on my forum and the buttons appear. Did you happen to make any other changes that would have coincided with the buttons disappearing? Craig

Hi Craig. Thanks for your response. No, I've not made any changes to my forum in several years. Meaning behind the scenes in my Admin options. What's odd is that I've got another forum with the IP Lookup plugin installed and the buttons for that there are still visible. I've considered that maybe another plugin is somehow affecting the IP Lookup one but I don't really know. Here are the others I've got installed, but none of those have been installed recently.

I found no code explicitly removing the quote buttons from posts on that forum, suggesting they may have been removed via template modification.
There is also a CSS rule in the source code that hides the quote buttons but keeps them in the DOM so the plugin can find them, but that rule is useless if the buttons have already been removed.
The plugin zeroes in on the quote button in each post to distinguish one post from another before looking for the IP related to that post, so if they were outright removed rather than hidden, then that would be the problem.

Eton, thanks for your reply. The template for my forum hasn't been altered in any way in years. And up until recently the IP Lookup buttons were visible. Based on your Profile image I looked at my own and was surprised to see the IP buttons in there. So, my question now is: How can those show there but not in my forum's posts?

The theme I see as a guest viewing the forum shows no evidence of quote buttons in any of the posts, so perhaps you recently switched themes (assuming you have multiple themes installed). The point being that the plugin cannot add buttons if it cannot find the quote buttons corresponding to each post. It doesn't matter how you got there only that you are there now and cannot resolve the issue unless the quote buttons are returned (they can be hidden but not completely removed as it appears they are in this theme) The plugin creates its own buttons by relying on the presence of quote buttons in the posts.

Pete - According to your forum's security log on March 18th of this year an edit was made to the Post List template. I'm assuming this would be to remove the quote variable. Go to Admin > Structure > Layout Templates > Thread > Post List tab (Post List template). On line 21 add this: $[post.quote_button] Save. Then go to Admin > Structure > Headers & Footers > Global Header & Footer > Header and add this: <style> a.button.quote-button { display: none; } </style> Save. This should restore the IP buttons and hide the Quote button in posts.

Scott, I very carefully followed your instructions. Copied the tags you provided, pasted those in and saved it all. Checked threads and the Quote button was still blocked but the IP Lookup buttons didn't appear. Logged-out of my forum and then back in to reload its site. Still no IP buttons. Below you can check what I did to see if I did it correctly.

Pete - You had put the variable into the Thread template, rather than the Post List template. Additionally some of the code in your Global Header was broken. I've fixed both of these and all should be well now.

Eton Bones - oops. Thanks. I was concentrating more at how my code was added and missed that.

Scott & Eton, Checked my forum before I came here and saw both buttons. Thank you both very much for your patience and expert help. I surely appreciate it!
