Forum URL: mho.freeforums.net/Hi there, since mid last week we have been having huge problems uploading pictures, or better said, not uploading. It isn't just one area, members from across the globe are experiencing this. We all get the same error message: back garden.PNG - Server error (Internal server error) Is anyone else having or, had these problems and if yes, how did you fix it? Thanks up front for any help. Cheers, Paul B

Cheers, Paul B For clarity, are you referring to the imgbb plugin? If so, if I recall correctly that plugin was removed from the library due to issues; it's possible that the host has changed something about their API and thus has broken the plugin — which won't be fixed as the plugin was discontinued. If you are referring to something else, could you be a bit more specific?

If it is that plugin, one of the forums I use still has it. I just tried it out and it works just fine. I noticed others have uploaded recently and there's been no mention of having problems.

Kami, yes it is the plugin.
Dante, forum members in Spain, Japan, and Norway could load pictures today. Myself (in Germany) and my 2nd in command (in the UK) still can't load pictures.

Other forums not having an issue is not inherently indicative of the plugin being OK — sometimes issues are localised to certain geographical locations, and sometimes to certain traffic locations (eg: from a particular forum). Kami, yes it is the plugin. Dante, forum members in Spain, Japan, and Norway could load pictures today. Myself (in Germany) and my 2nd in command (in the UK) still can't load pictures. I'm not seeing the plugin on the forum, but it might only be loading on a posting page -- do you have a guest-friendly board?

I am not seeing the plugin installed; can you double check the plugin settings to see if it allows guests to upload?

I'm absolutely sure you can post and add images there, the security isn't activated. Hit the Reply button at the top right hand corner, then when in reply you can see the image uploader button.

Sorry, to be clear: I know where it should go but it looks like this is not possible for guests; yes I can post, but I cannot use the image uploader. This might be intentional on the part of the plugin, but it would be good to, as I mentioned, check the plugin settings in admin > plugins > manage plugins. There should be a little thing next to the name of the plugin that shows who is allowed to read the plugin, like so: If that says "everyone", then this is not a plugin that can be used by guests. You'll need to wait for a PB admin to check it out later (though it should be noted that this plugin was removed from the PB plugin library due to security concerns, so they may not be inclined to troubleshoot an unsupported, third-party plugin).

imgbb has been having some serious issues on their website recently. All of our images are disappearing. 😞 Yes, I wasn't sure yesterday whether I should chime in here, but it does look like imgbb is going the way of the Dodo, or perhaps the way of the old Tinypics site. I used imgbb for several years, and they were reliable, but I started noticing increasingly frequent failures to display images about a year or two ago. In recent months and weeks it's gotten to the point where about 90% of my images failed to display at any given time. I finally uploaded several hundred pics that I use in my forum to postimages.org a couple of weeks ago. I think imgbb is done for. Maybe that's why that plugin has been abandoned (I never used it).
Also, if you reload an image or perhaps an entire page, or try displaying it in a separate tab/window, it sometimes displays. This might take a few tries. It also varies from day to day. So the pics are still there, they're just not displaying.
Lesson learned: If the images are important to you, keep copies of them on your computer.

Ideally, you should upload theme images directly to the theme. Relying on a third part site is never safe. They can disappear at any time and change their ToS at any time. Most free image hosting services do not allow you to use their sites as your content delivery network, meaning you shouoldn't use them for avatars, signatures, banners, forum images, etc. You will have to check PostImage's ToS regarding their policies though. postimages.org/terms

Do any of the Admins here, have anything to say or add to this? Unfortunately, as these errors are coming from the image hosting site, ProBoards wouldn't be able to do anything to affect that.
