Hello cott and every1 Could someone please clarify a point regarding the bump rule in the advertising section of the forum? One of the moderators has expressed concern about my method of keeping my thread active. They mentioned that I should be using the word "BUMP" instead of my current approach of using short sentences. I'm curious to understand the reasoning behind this preference and does it really matter? Regards February.

February - Yes it does matter. When creating your advertising post, all the essential details about your forum need to be included in the first post. The purpose of subsequent posts is simply to keep your thread visible on the first page (or first few pages) of the board through Ad Placement—not to add more content. This approach is actually to your advantage. Users browsing forum listings typically scan the first post to decide whether they're interested in joining. They’re unlikely to read through multiple pages of bumps, whether those bumps are just the word “bump” or additional details. The forum rules also help ensure fairness in the advertising section, giving every forum an equal chance to be seen. Allowing only one bump per day helps accommodate forum owners across different time zones, so no one gets an unfair advantage based on when they’re online.

Hello Scott and support community, Are you suggesting that I can elaborate on my initial post? Fairness to whom? Also, why use "bump" instead of "bounce"? It seems quite arbitrary. Can I be bold and propose a change to the rule? The proposed modification to the rule being able to bump your post by adding a paragraph or through a selection of alternative words to "BUMP" Regards February

Hello Scott and support community, Are you suggesting that I can elaborate on my initial post? I suppose that would depend on what you mean by 'elaborate'. But generally speaking, yes, if you need to update your initial post, you may edit the post. BTW, you have read the rules for that board, right? linkIt is not arbitrary. The action of moving a thread to the top of the list is called "bumping". Thus adding a post to a thread "bumps" the thread. I appreciate the suggestion, however the rule works and we currently have no plans to change it.

In Ye Olden Days of the internet, bump was short for Bring Up My Post.

In Ye Olden Days of the internet, bump was short for Bring Up My Post. Huh, never knew that. Must be before my time.
