Why is my post count at zero now? You only have a handful of posts associated with this forum account and aside from this topic, they were in boards where post counts don't increase. So, with this topic, your post count is now 1.

Also for clarity: since 2013 (the release of v5), when you delete your account and remake it with the same username you do not get your old posts / threads associated with the new account. This is because every account is assigned an account ID and posts are associated by ID, not username. Your username is the same, but this account has a different ID and so all your past posts do not count towards your current post count.
This is in combination with the previous response.

Your username is the same, but this account has a different ID and so all your past posts do not count towards your current post count. This is in combination with the previous response. Technically, a re-registered account hasn't owned posts associated with the previous account holder since the release of v4 in 2005. They outwardly appeared to be be linked because the software would only check if a username associated with a post exists and then just fill in profile details from the new account if so, but for non-display purposes it checked the registration date on the account against the timestamp on the post. If the post was made before the account was registered, the account did not own it and had no control over it. Prior to v4, it was a free-for-all. Anyone could register a deleted username (unless reserved) and take full ownership over the previous account's posts. However, it's never been the case that registering a previously deleted username has given the new account the post count of the old account. It's a static field that always starts at 0 when an account is created, is incremented by 1 every time someone posts (if enabled), and is completely deleted when an account is deleted.

a fair correction , i was really only thinking about the association link between posts / username, not full ownership/functionality.
