I've noticed this happens a lot when I'm watching Tokio Hotel videos. Tokio Hotel is the type of band that you'll really either love or hate eventually. I'm perfectly okay with people saying that they don't like Tokio Hotel, but when they start bashing then I get quite annoyed. If they state their opinion in a respectful matter, then everyone's happy.

I reject the statement "don't like, don't post". Are people that insecure about their interests that they feel they may crumble if someone disagrees? However, I can understand the opposition to empty, meaningless bashing. On the other hand, some people seem to think ANY criticism is "bashing". Let's use our good old friend as a demonstration: cake (or fruit cake, to be specific).
"Fruit cake sucks" - this is clearly a meaningless post; it is an attempt to antagonise, not a contribution to the discussion
"I do not like fruit cake because it is dry, and I am not partial to fruit" - clearly a more acceptable way; people have no right to silence this
Now, there is an exception to this rule: in the context of a fruit cake appreciation forum, neither are really acceptable. Why is it acceptable to voice opposition in a thread on a more diverse forum? Quite simply, it is impolite to exclude others. Whether you like it or not, people will disagree.
I would also like to add that posts that disagree are not a "+1" post if they are constructive. Imagine a "real life" debate. Let's use the meme of pirates versus ninjas, just for humour. In this group of people, most people are agreeing that ninjas are clearly better. Now, if one person pipes up saying that they believe pirates are better (and justifies why), you wouldn't deem that meaningless, would you? (Assuming, of course, you were part of the pirates versus ninjas debate).
A more apt statement would be: "Don't want opposing opinions? Don't post."
Bad analogies aside, I hope I made my point.

The key word here is about how you voice your opinion. If you don't like the said topic, just state that you don't. There's no need to insult everyone else who likes it and then imply that they're idiots for liking the thing.

I can't name a specific thread, but it has happened. This was not my intent upon coming into the thread at all, in fact my first response to the thread mentioned was more of a poke of fun than anything, and everyone took it very personally that I was a girl and had an opinion about sports o.o and when I kept getting quoted, I kept coming back. Sometimes I can be very pushy, and moody, and I suppose that can be taken in offense by some people but it generally wasn't intended, at least not that time. I just figured I was allowed to state my opinion even if it was the minority of the thread. A opinion is one thing an own reality is another. Like the latest example the sawker thread*: 90% of the world is stupid, the truth is the sport is overjoyed , I like football USA RAH RAH RAH is za best, I know better let's inform the world we are right and no chance in hell me me me could be ever wrong. And people need to learn to handle criticism. *it's also wonderful I had the last post there

I'm not a fan of the "don't like? don't post" thing that goes on here. Mostly because it makes the OP seem like someone who just doesn't like being disagreed with. Though also, I can understand that some people just want to vent. I want to vent at people on here all the time, I just don't hit the 'post reply' button most of the time.

Oh look, a Harry Potter thread. Question: Would it be appropriate to say "I don't like Harry Potter (insert criticism here)!" in this thread?

The topic in that thread isn't up for discussion. The OP is just asking a question. If the topic was something like, "I like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", i would have no problem with someone posting about how they don't like harry potter

People will handle criticism if it's done in the right way, and not in some demoralising manner IS there such a thing? Proper way to criticize someone? Some have short fusses and react angrily even if you have the best intentions. I for one can't stand people that refuse to acknowledge they are wrong when faced with overwhelming evidence and still insist that I should respect their opinion

IS there such a thing? Proper way to criticize someone? Some have short fusses and react angrily even if you have the best intentions. To quote myself: In order for a criticism (or, indeed, praise) to be valid, it must be justified. In not justifying an opinion, it shows either sickening fanboy-ism / fangirl-ism or that a person is arguing for the sake of arguing. I for one can't stand people that refuse to acknowledge they are wrong when faced with overwhelming evidence and still insist that I should respect their opinionYou somewhat answered your own question there - in order for an opinion to be valid from either side, they must justify it.

You suck I know better. I've made more cakes this month than you ate you entire life and a little brat tells me it's dry...how dare you!!! And I justify it and then what happens? Now go convince a fundie with the overwhelming evidence there is to agree with gay marriage. For them the Bible is proof enough.
