There's an optional upgrade period before a forced automatic upgrade. There will be a fyi information sheet when the upgrades are ready to take place, answering all questions.

I know this is a stupid question but please bear with me - There's no way for an admin to beta test V5 themselves while the REST of the forum stays on the current version, correct?
That's all I'll ask, not trying to hijack this thread, sorry.

That's all I'll ask, not trying to hijack this thread, sorry. Actually, if you sign up to be a beta tester that is exactly how it works, well mostly. Your forum isn't the one that will be V5 for the testing, you'll be given access to a copy of this support site that is V5. So in a sense the answer to your question is yes, you will be able to test V5 but your site will remain as it is.

OH, it's THIS support site you're testing, not your own forum??? I never realized that!!!!! Yeah, many people didn't realize that. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it though.. This way a LOT of people can all test V5 at the same time on just one forum rather than having hundreds of imperfect V5 forums out there that people are testing. Those forums would still have little issues or bugs needing to be worked out- so it makes no sense to upgrade a bunch of sites to a version that still requires a bit of tweaking. See what I mean?

I was thinking that people with smaller forums might be the ones beta testing, or the forums made up of programmers, etc (members who are programmers) who would be testing.
But what you said definitely makes sense.

Just confirming that the current v5 beta test is being conducted on a copy of this Support forum, your own forums will be untouched during this current beta test

Hi, The majority of things will be optional Thank you very much, Craig, that's good to know. I know a lot of people love the shout box, but I've never found it to be anything but a nuissance. Same thing with a lot of the new options coming. I put a lot of time and effort into my board, and I, and my members are happy with everything as it is now. A lot of us can't stand Facebook, so we don't touch those "Like/Dislike" buttons, etc., nor do we go anywhere near Facebook. So, yeah, I am just glad to know that most of it will be optional. Thank you! I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but since my question has to do with the upcoming upgrade, I didn't want to open my own thread. I am just wondering, if there are things in the new upgrade that I don't want, is there a way to disable them? Such as the shoutbox (something I have NEVER wanted on my forum which is why I've never used the ones you can add through the headers or footers), and the "like" buttons? Please say that there will be a way to disable them. Not everyone wants that stuff, nor wants it forced on them!!!!!!! how can I add a shoutbox through headers and footers? We want one BAD!lol where do I get this shout box as well??? I can't remember if you can get the code(s) here, or if you have to get them from somewhere else, but basically, you take the code, copy it (making sure that the site you're copying the code from is freely distributing it), and then you implement it in the proper section of your board, which will either be the Global Header or Footer. Someone more familiar with codes and shoutboxes/C-boxes can probably direct you to the proper section of this site where the codes are listed, if Proboards offers a code for shoutboxes.

For those of us that have had custom skins created for our forums; is v5 likely to cause any proplems with the customised skin display/layout at all? Thank you.
