It appears our board was updated to v5 without any preparation or understanding, and maybe while the administrator was in hospital! Whether this upgrade was selected by him or the system defaulted to upgrade in his absence I do not know. I understand there is now no way back.
The issue seems primarily to be that of problems with members' re-establishing log-ins to the board on V5. It's clearly far too easy to cock it up as I did myself and it surely needs review.
However, it seems many members may have just given up. Is there some general warning we can post so that members understand the process and:
1 Don't make mistakes initially, and/or
2.Go back and start again after they have cocked it up but without having to rejoin as a new member under new user name etc.

Here's a report/description on another thread : That's exactly what happened to me except I couldn't remember!
Seems to me you need to publish clearer directions and should try to fix whatever it is that's going wrong - I believe it is widespread.

Firstly, this has already been reported on another thread. V5 first time login issues. But the upgrade could not have happened at this time without the admin choosing to do so. The forced upgrades will not begin until the end of April. Thanks, yes I know there are various other threads on this issue which seems to be widespread but all that I have looked at seem to be dealing with specific users' particular problems. What I am seeking is for ProBoards to publish general advice and to fix the general problem.

Well it seems we may be getting nearer to solving log-in problems for the Midget Car Panorama site. This does appear to be a more knowledgeable section with Proboards staff answering queries rather than other forum users as was happening on the v5 update debate section.. All Midget Car Panorama members have been forwarded the link advice in regard to log-in problems so hopefully the site will get back to "business as usual" - that's of course if every member (even those with log-in problems) actually receive the email?

This elsewhere on here tends to indicate the problems Midget Car Panorama members are having. So it's not isolated - and as mentioned many forum members are not savvy to the various technical complexities. They just want to log-in, read messages and reply where needed - not have instruction in "high tech on computers". support.proboards.com/thread/445976/v5-first-time-login-issues

It looks as though this problem is just going to fade away without a definitive answer to it?

It looks as though this problem is just going to fade away without a definitive answer to it? Care to explain exactly what kind of login problems you're having? Without any detail there's not much to work off of. What's the URL to the forum in question? What steps are the users taking when logging in? On the global login page, does it show them as logged in on the top right? What errors are they receiving?

Knowing the answers to the other three would be of great assistance in helping us identify a cause for the problem.

Some providers tend to block our emails for no reason. Have them try adding noreply@proboards.com to their address list.

This all ridiculous. It just does not seem to be worth all the stress. Obviously the switch from v4 to v5 should never have been implemented?
