Having trouble logging in -Posted for Alethas Fantasy

I'm starting this thread for Alethas Fantasy because of the difficulties he is experiencing per these two posts:

I log in & it said I already linked, but when I was in it, it says log in, there a lot I don't like on the new one the old one could do, I'm lost & don't have time to read every post & still not find the anc. & can't ask says I need to log in.

I am so disappointed.

Aletha, Are you having difficulties logging in on your own site or just here.

With V5 most all the V4 codes will not work. Most all the popular V4 codes have been been either replaced with plug-ins, can be done with template changes or come as default with ProBoards.

Is it the plug-in smiley code you used or your old V4 code? If you aren't using the plug-in you can go to your admin panel, then go to Plug-ins and then Plug-in Library. There you will be taken to a new page with a list of plugins. If you type in Smilie Dropdown into the search box it should pull it up. Then click on read more and on the top right click "Install on Forum".  The instructions are here;

For your banners, I assume you added them in your skins options on V4. If that is the case you should be able to go to:

Admin Home> Themes> Theme Settings> and then settings and find that bit that says, Forum Title. In the drop down select "Display logo".

I did find where to make a post, with the help from Facebook proboards, I just first started off with # 1 problem getting my account fixed here in support so I can log in.

Yes only in here, it will not log me in, my other 2 boards I have no problem with & they are linked together.
I have had account here for support about 5 years.

You have anc. some of my que. yes I was using the other code for my smilie box will check out where you have told me & also see if I can find my header, those are so important to me, my, on the board called Co Owner that did alot of them has died & no way to get some of them.

looked for Transparent for header so only the header would show to blend in with the background.

I as a Admin can not get into other members profile to change there Background for them, one old guy Disable Vet has cripple hands & always has me to change it for him.

I also tried using my other code for:

Last Edit, so it doesn't show, I think it looks messy & now I'm having to re-do some that shows part of the code, after I fix them then I have the ugly Edit by etc. lol

Jump down to bottom of Bd. It will only jump down to the first Cat. then a few times it did go to the bottom of the main board.

Sound on PM, I get busy & don't look at the top for a PM when I see it there already off.

Headlines: my pic. don't show anything but the code now.

My code for my Affiliation Running board at the bottom, got it to work, some say it is not all in a line, but show it right on my end, I need to adjust the leanth to match the board.

I also put my code in where the whole board is out lined in my Gold trim, well that don't work it puts it all inside of my Affiliation running board. lol

I have looked & tried some things but a lot of it I just don't understand.

Is there a Tec or someone I can pay to get me back up & going to have my board back to where I am pride of it?

I'll try to work through all you questions a few at at time here.

Since you already have a global account for your other two boards I suspect you are using a different email here.

If you log out of your global account for your other boards and come here and try to log in using your normal login info you have always used here, does that work? I think you might be having difficulties because your email here is different from your other two sites. You need one email to link your global account.

For the smilies, do you remember if it is this code you were using?

If it was, going to the file in your global footer..

Admin Home> Structure> Headers & Footers> and click the file on the right for globals, you should find the code for the smilies and be able to put together the url for each smiley.

You'll put the red part of this....

var imgPath = "http://img./v123/california/smileys/"

....with the red part of this....

['smiley.gif', ':smile:'],

..and that should be the complete link to the smiley.

Like I said, putting old V4 codes in your headers won't work. Unless they are html links like this:

By the way, once you recover those smilies, even though you will have them on your site, it might be a good idea to save them all to your own photo host so you'll always have them. Just a thought.

To make your banner area transparent go to:

Admin Home> Themes> Advanced Styles & CSS> Visual Editor> and click on header, forum banner and banner image and find the line: Background Color Then click on the color globe and you should see a check box on the popup with the colors that says transparent. Check that box.

I'm afraid this won't be possible but you can give him some very clear instructions on how to do it himself.

You could say: Click on your profile. On the right click on "Edit Profile" and then click on "Settings". Scroll down to forum themes and select the theme you want in the drop-down.

I'm not sure but I would think if he had a theme/skin selected on V4 he liked, he should have the same theme on V5 but I might be wrong about this. I've not tested this to be the case or not.

Now this might be a bit scary for you to do but if you mess up you can reset things back to default so no need to worry.

Go to: Admin Home> Themes> Layout Templates> and then click on "Post List". Go to approximately line 35ish and find this bit. You can either remove it totally or you can just add the red at the beginning of it or the end, which will prevent it from showing the last edit.

Jump down to bottom of Bd. It will only jump down to the first Cat. then a few times it did go to the bottom of the main board.

Without seeing exactly what you are using to jump to the bottom I can't really say what is wrong. I would suggest, if you tried adding any codes to your headers and footers you just remove them and we can go from there. There is a really nice plug-in for back to top and back to bottom.

So you need to go to your admin panel, go to the plug-in library and on that page, in the search box type in "back to top" and the plugin should come up. Click on "read more" and at the toppish right side you should see "Install on forum". Click that and it will be installed. It puts an arrow on the right side of the forum so you can navigate to the top or bottom of your site.

As far as I know there is no plug in for that. Not sure if it is possible or not but you could request a plugin be made for that here:

Since you get a little icon at the top indicating when you get a pm or notification, maybe that will be enough to attract your attention in the mean while.

If you can post those two codes here, I'll be happy to fix them. Also there is a plug in for an affiliates table if you are interested.
Again, at the plugin library type in the search box, "affiliate" and you should have two options. But if you are fond of the one you have I'll be glad to take a look and fix any issues.

I think that will have to go in your wrapper. Can you post that code as well here so I know what I'm dealing with.

If you absolutely get stumped on some of these things, one of the admin may be able to help you for FREE by going in directly and editing (I cannot) but we encourage everyone to give it a good fair shot so you can get used to how things work.

You were right the E-Mail was a long time ago one.

I am long in after logging out of my boards.

I tried to change my E-Mail to match my boards the one I use now.

It will not let me change my E-Mail it says:

Edit Email
That email address is already in use.

So do I just use the old one to log in to support & my now E-Mail for my boards?

Yes, I did get a post in, if you could delete it or add to this one would be good no need in two.

First wanted to be able to sine in here but would like to be able to change my E-Mail to the one I use now, is there a way?

Hi Aletha,

If you received the message saying that the email address is already in use, this would be due to having two global accounts. If you want to merge forum accounts from one global account to another, there's a post here in the FAQ that should be of help in getting everything moved over to one global account

OK That is not working for my problem. lol

I log out of every thing then says to go to www.proboards.com/ & log into the E-Mail you no longer want, takes you to your dashboard, click Account Settings, Select Unlink forum.

OK I have No links to any forum, only shows support.

On my 2 boards with the right E-Mail I do not have a support linked to them.
I tried to go ahead & change them to the old E-Mail to see if they would link to the support but says that E-Mail is already taking, then I was going to change all to my now E-Mail so it wouldn't say it was already taken, but No Cookie, wouldn't work. lol

I only have one support account I sign for 5 years ago, never signed up for another support one didn't know to.

I don't know what else to try.

It's because your proboards support account is linked to a different global account (email address). Since you're logged into your account here, click the button found in the PB bar at the lower-right hand corner of the screen. On that next page click the "Unlink" option and then choose your ProBoards Support account from that page and continue on. When unlinking your ProBoards Support account, be sure that you remember the new password that you give for the account as this will be required later.

Once you have your ProBoards support account unlinked, visit the support forum here. Next, click the "Login" button to be taken to the login page here on the support page. On that white login page, look in the top-right hand corner of the screen. If it says "Welcome, (Your Name)" -- click the "Logout" link found to the right of that to logout of your global account. Now click the login button again on the support forum, then on the white login page type in aletha for the username along with the new password you just set for the account. After logging in with that, you should be asked to link the forum account to a global account. Check the email address on that page and make sure it matches the global account that your other forum accounts are linked to and proceed from there

I gave you a screen shot of the area you want to be in to change. Change to "display logo".
