Ahh, you are a Seagulls man, I like B&HA as United have loaned a few players to the Gulls over the years and one in particular, was James Wilson. I did like that lad and wondered why he was sent out on loan when playing for United U21's then a few senior appearances and I had high hopes for him. It looked like he never hit it off with B&HA and is back with United but I think he will be shipped out again and be sold. Wilson was a peculiar one - he's got undoubted talent and he showed that on occasions with some superb goals for us v Charlton and Derby off the top of my head, but there's a massive question mark over his health/fitness - we think he spent most of the 2nd half of the season with an illness, as he was ill on the side of the pitch on more than one occasion and often was huffing and puffing early in the game/his appearance which left a lot of fans a little perplexed. He never seemed to quite live up to the potential, but if the deal was right and his fitness wasn't an issue i'd take him back, there's a quality player in there. Strange young lad is Wilson, he played brilliant with United in the U21's and then the first team when he got a run but maybe United seen something that we don't know about and that's why they off loaded him on a loan and it looks like he will be moved on again now he has come back and maybe be sold instead of loaned out again. Just a never ending story with some young football talent nowadays, start off brilliantly then suddenly just fade away and you hear later on in years they have another job than football and no one would have a clue what they were before and who they are today, sad really.

Michael Johnson, who was considered a hot prospect by City, has to be the most startling example of this. Bright young talent who represented England at youth level and was plagued by a series of injuries that culminated in him losing his athletic edge, getting released by City at the age of 24 and spiralling into alcoholism. Thankfully things seem to have picked up for the lad and he's now running his own business in his hometown. There's probably loads more examples we never hear about of prospects at lower league clubs who could have gone on to play at the top level and are driven out of the game by injury or the various forms of excess that entice young men who have piles of cash and fame thrown at them at an early age.

I seem to remember The Dark Knight used to make regular football threads which were fairly active but there hasn't been one for a while. I welcome contributions from everyone no matter which country or division. This thread can be used for ongoing discussion throughout the season. To get the ball rolling, post who you follow and a bit about how you're feeling about the coming season. For those of us "lucky" enough to support Championship teams (hello Craig and Graham ) the league got underway yesterday. I'm a Newcastle United fan and I was feeling very, very optimistic yesterday. Today not so much. And here I was thinkin' this was a post about American Football. I must confess to feeling let down.

I think Wilson was just unfortunate - I think if he had less health issues and if the emergence of players like Lingard (another we had on loan at the Albion) and Rashford then he would have been a shoe in for a spot in the first team squad - it's awful timing for him but I do think he'll be a decent striker for a lower Prem/top Championship team. He works well playing off a big striker. There's rumours of him going to Birmingham on loan and I think he'll do well there. And here I was thinkin' this was a post about American Football. I must confess to feeling let down. Nope, regular football. The one played with your feet, not with your hands

I'm deeply sorry to hear of your dispair, but luckily for you ProBoards has a neat feature that allows you to create your very own topics about anything you want without making pointless posts in somebody else's. Here's a quick guide in case you've not used it before: Just fancy that!

You see, there's also this lovely personality trait called 'sarcasm' that people with a sense of humor have. You should research it. My point being, I was making a sarcastic remark to the thread. It isn't pointless as I am going to still participate in discussion, or I was planning to.

I sure hope you're not being too sarcastic as you said earlier that you do welcome all discussion regardless of country and division. I hope that also includes those who are recent followers as I've only been following for the last couple seasons, albeit a little distantly. I don't have a particular team that I follow, much like when I watch baseball. But I will be checking in tonight for Vancouver and San Jose. For now I'll be tuning in to Women's Olympic where the US will be taking on Sweden in about an hour.

Comfortable 3-0 win for the Albion tonight against a transitional Notts Forest. Would have been a lot harder if they weren't missed their two best players (IMO) in Assombalonga and Mills, but i'll never complain against a win. Happy for Murray to be back in Brighton and on the scoresheet, but the performance wasn't the best...still, 4 pts from Derby & Forest is a good return for the first two games. Highlights for anyone that wants: www.skysports.com/watch/video/10533908/brighton-3-0-nottingham-forest

Brighton off to a very promising start, definitely setting the tone for the rest of the title/promotion contenders.
Big day for us today. If we don't get a win I'll be quite worried. Not that I think it should be a foregone conclusion and I have no doubt Huddersfield will put in a good shift, but if we don't play up to the standard we should be with the players we have it will be quite disconcerting.
It's also the launch day of our Gallowgate Flags initative, a fan-led, club-backed campaign to get the Gallowgate end all black and white and looking like some of the more intimidating stands around the continent like those at Der Westfalenstadion and some of the fiercer Italian grounds. Hopefully it's pulled off properly, or it could end up a bit plasticy feeling like some of the MLS grounds feel.

Well, that's two games and two defeats for us. Very, very worrying. A lot of pressure riding on the Reading game on Wednesday night. Feeling very anxious now.

How have you been playing in those games? It's a big transition to the faster paced Championship, is it just that or are you woefully prepared for life in the lower division?

How have you been playing in those games? It's a big transition to the faster paced Championship, is it just that or are you woefully prepared for life in the lower division? Obvious defensive errors for all three goals so far this season, but two from a player who had a good few seasons with Forest in the league. I reckon it is a case of acclimating to the tempo of the league and particularly the style of officiating. We do have a whole new team in a whole new league in effect, and with 140 points or something like that still up for grabs I'm not deeply concerned yet, because I know it will take time to find our feet. That being said Villa have definitely managed to hit the ground running, so I don't know. I think Wednesday night against Reading (at SJP again) will be crucial in defining the attitude the fans take for the first part of the season. We were looking impotent going forward as well until Richie came on. I reckon we're in desparate need of decent winger to play opposite him, and hopefully Diame gets it into gear playing balls through the middle. Would be very worried about the rest of the season if we didn't get another creative player and honestly, a senior striker. Edit: one of the local BBC Radio Stations (Derby I think) is reporting that we're in for Forestieri for £12mn. That wouldn't be a bad signing. Still wouldn't mind Knockaert though, because we've been playing a DM with no creative ability in the position he'd take. Wouldn't be optimistic at all about that though, given that yous have no need to sell.

Never seen the match D but I was keeping check of the score and when you went 1-0 up I thought you should win that being at home but then seen the final score and I was surprised really. But I think Raffa is in for a big surprise and Graham was spot on what he said. It will take some time for Raffa to get the hang of the pace in the Championship, I think he will realise now this is not the EPL, LaLiga etc leagues and will have to get the players to adapt or even buy players who are old hands in the Championship games and can help you out.
