It's beyond me why people feel the need to do something like this but well done Patrick for working hard at getting us all back up and running again. Oddly enough one of our members had reported difficulties logging in late last night but as he was the only one with the problem the rest of us thought nothing of it.

Of course this board would be priority #1. It stands to reason so we could all be kept informed of what's happening.

how come I can get online on my phone just now and other members can get online but I can't on here?

The DDOS Attack is causing fluctuations of most servers going busy and offline.
Please be patient while Patrick Clinger does what he has to to stop the DDOS attack.

I know they are very hard to stop, and I personally wish Pat good luck, and high commendations for his efforts, as he is doing a fantastic job at keeping the attack as low as he is. These attacks can usually cause full offline stats, and Pat is preventing that.

Way to go, Pat, keep up the great work!

Would it not be possible to switch all the servers off so they soon get bored and move on and then switch them back on again?

this type of attack works by overloading the servers with connections. if the server stays up, and doesn't just crash completely, you still can't get through because there's so many other requests to the server it can't handle them all at the same time. if you happen to get through all that, the page will still load, but that's just the chance of your connection making it through ahead of however many other connections the machine is trying to process.

I'm wondering if the more people we have on proboards getting this back online, the faster it'll go. This is a suggestion, but we should have at least a few dozen people trained on stopping this type of thing.
