this type of attack works by overloading the servers with connections. if the server stays up, and doesn't just crash completely, you still can't get through because there's so many other requests to the server it can't handle them all at the same time. if you happen to get through all that, the page will still load, but that's just the chance of your connection making it through ahead of however many other connections the machine is trying to process.

I went on the Tennantweb one and managed to get onto it fine, went to go into one of the rooms, I.E General Chat, and it told me 'Internet Exlorer Can Not Display This Page'

it doesn't work like that or else it would be sorted by now there's only so much you can do against attacks on this scale, and it can be done by just a few people. anymore wouldn't make any difference overall.

it's also the first time i've ever seen pb taken offline on this sort of scale by a user attack, so it's not something that's happened often.
