I became and Admin because I wanted to create the first successful Call of Duty Zombies clan, and so far I am very happy.

I think most people want to be admin so they feel in control and can do what ever they like to the forum. I don't mind being a member or mod of a forum, I'm a member of loads of forums, so in some cases I don't mind not being an admin I opened my own forum because it was my interest.

Most people join a forum and then don't like something about it so they go and make their own. I do it. There is just a thrill you get from running things your own way. Of course there is also the interest thing. If I can't find a forum that I'm looking for 9 times out of 10 I'll go make my own just so that it is there.

I make a site so I can see it grow and people enjoy it. Plus there are rarely any that have my major interest, though I am a member of many. I love to help too ^^

People make sites simply for the idea of being an admin. I think that is the way it has been, and will be for a long time coming.
People like the idea of being in charge. They want to create something successful or simply just to have power. I've seen several sites like so that were ripped off of other forums that were already 18 thousand members ahead of them, even though they were a part of that forum and liked it.
It's simply because everyone thinks staff is a fancy title and position.

I became an admin simply because, I wanted to make a unique forum, all my own. Yeah sure, there are more and more people that want to do nothing but be in power, but the thing is, it's a LOT of work being an admin. Sometimes, it can darn near break your heart. It takes a competitive, stubborn, all around welcoming and fun admin to make a good site. Not an admin who wants to be in charge. And well, I also became admin because I love showing my uniqueness through my website.
BUT when I started out, it was because I felt that I could make a better site than the one I was a member on. And I was like other people who made sites. Just to be in charge. But I quickly learned the responsibility and determination it takes.

I was already a longtime (eight years) member as well as a MOD of a forum. Our admin had not shown up in about 3 years, and many of us contacted her about it, and she never came back. Our old site was on invisionfree and since I was running the site (with only mod capabilities) anyway, when we decided to start a new forum (and discovered proboards) we decided I would run the new site.

I created a forum and became an admin so i could better understand how the forum is customized and how it works. It also helps in learning some coding.

First off, this is a great topic; I've never thought about this before! When I first joined a role playing site, I just joined for fun and had no intention of being a part of the staff. After a while, however, I was asked to become a c-admin and I didn't want to turn down the offer! So thus began my days as an administrator.
That was about, let's say, six years ago? I've always been a leader, and since then I've developed other personality traits... Like being a teensy bit of a control freak (I swear I'm not a crazy person though) and I'm OCD about making things look presentable. As an administrator, I have control over the sites layout, the rules, and I know pretty much everything that goes on. I like being able to use all of the admin functions; I feel naked without them! Hah.
The only downside that I sometimes feel, is that I can't always enjoy my site. I have a million other responsibilities that I have to attend to before I can have fun. Don't get me wrong, I love my site and the work that comes with managing it, but I don't always have time to just relax.

Well, I'll admit that when I started making forums and on my first forum in particular it was just for the power. I had till then been part of only really succesful forums and wanted something of my own that'd show up in a google search That's probably why I made so many mistakes in the beginning because I was doing it for ALL the wrongs reasons. Nowadays, I don't make sites because I know I'm a better member than admin but I will sometimes when I have a great idea for a world (I mostly do medieval fantasy) I would still start a new forum.

I have a feeling I have in fact posted in here before. My reasons are quite simple. I am making a forum for the new CoD MW3 video game. I have found a bigger one, but the staff of that forum are really rude. I'm planning on enforcing, and actually making people follow my rules. I understand guys, and sometimes girls can get a little overboard with the game, but it gives no excuse for rude behavior. For the most part I want to be an admin because I feel as though those admins failed with it. It maybe getting more members, but it will in fact not be the best community for MW3 news, and etc. I am a female myself, but TRULY enjoy the game for what it is. I mute half of the people who have a mic. Anyways! On topic again... I guess what I am saying is that I sometimes make forums as to where the previous owners of the said niche/video game/anime forum screwed up on, I'd fix and actually make staff do their job, or demod them. For the most part I truly am more of a casual forum owner than anything. I became and Admin because I wanted to create the first successful Call of Duty Zombies clan, and so far I am very happy. This also. I wished to make some sort of a 'clan' system, but it would be a little more strict to weed out the d-bags.

I am extremely picky when it comes to sites to sites. Usually when I find one I like it doesn't last long or the admins are really unreliable and I end up leaving anyways. Sure I could join a bigger forum but I find it hard to get into a bigger forum. On those bigger forums its easy to get lost and ignored. I prefer smaller, newer sites and unfortunately those don't seem to last long at all.
Recently, I've joined a site three times and on all three the admins disappeared on me. So I decided to make my own. I've owned sites in the past but haven't had a lot of time for them because of school. Now that schools over for me I've got a lot of time to run one so it seems like the perfect solution.
I would never claim that I could make the best forum out there or one better then everyone elses because not everyone likes the same thing. I make a forum that I like and can feel comfortable on and not get bored of & hope others find it and feel the same way about it too.

That happens all the time for me also, and is why I also was on the edge to make my own forum for the game. The admins are usually immature teenagers who cannot moderate or manage a forum properly. :@

i've been creating and running my own sites for four years now and i can say, that I am completely sick of it x] running a site is a lot of fun, if the members actually help out, it's not just the admin, everyone on the site is important, people tend to forget that.
now i've just joined a site, which has been well about four years since i've done that, it's weird, it's new, but so far, it's way better than being admin.
