I have hidden boards on my site that are hidden in pictues. So I used the no right click code so people couldn't highlight the whole page and see where they are hidden. Not many people think about it since the mouse came out but you can still find them if you hit the tab key. ((So far only one member thought to do that. but I may have to get a no tab key code. LOL))

Oh on those pages there is no posting. There is only links to other pages. Like the Castle Hogwarts page you rated. You can't post on it, and it has the no right click code cause it has two hidden boards on it both are not password protected. So for me it is worth it as long as no one figures out the tab key trick. LOL

The whole reason for the debate against anti-right click codes is because it limits what people can do while posting, like copy and paste, which is done often on forums. On a non-posting board, I don't really see any negatives.

Well thank you. I agree on the posting boards it would be a pain. When he first put the code on he put it on all the boards and I was not happy. It limited me way to much and I made him remove it just to the boards with no posting on them. We had to put it on all the baords that you coudln't post on to keep from members figureing out which boards had the hidden boards. So it is good for that but posting boards I allow it on.

I personaly do not like them. Most of the time they don't even do their job, to protect from viewing the sorce, you can just click View-Source, which defeats the object of them anyways. Disabling Javascript will get around them, and most of them do not work in firefox. They wouldn't even stop a novice user, because they know how to work print screen.

Using No Right Click Codes On your ProBoardHow do you folks feel about no right click codes? People use these codes to prevent others from right clicking to capture the URL of their images, in order to keep people from stealing them. People also use these codes to prevent people from right clicking to click 'view source' to steal codes out of the headers and footers. Others use it so people cannot copy text from threads, to paste elsewhere. However, these codes don't really work, as there other, easy alternatives to capture the image URL's, as well as codes and even text in posts. However, even though there are easy alternatives out there to right clicking, maybe this still helps to protect against people w/ little knowledge of computers who are out to steal. But at the same time, this also prevents welcomed members to copy and paste from threads, which is a normal part of everyday posting. So what do you think about no right click codes - a good thing to help against theft, or a total annoying, and useless function? Debate. another way to get a code is right click and click view source and just find the image its harder but it can be done

True they can. I guess it really comes down to patrolling all the sites like yours to make sure they don't take any pictures you made. For me the only ones I really care about anyone copying are the ones in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. I made those myself and would be mad if someone took them without my permission. Most of what I used on my site I got from the movies or free animations, so anyone could do the same thing. As for the debate and it protecting your graphics from being stolen it is useless and if that was a persons only reason to use it then they shouldn't bother.

&NOHEADERS=1, View Source, Disable Javascript. It's easy, and the code is pointless. Maybe you want to check on dimensions. Maybe you've got resources there you want to use. It's a pointless and annoying code. ^ Exactly. I know that it's a painful feeling to have codes or graphics ripped from a site, but there are other, better ways to maintain security on a forum. For graphics, use a subtle, yet distinguishable, watermark to "sign" your images and prevent theft from unscrupulus individuals. In regards to codes, I currently do not know of any particular methods to counteract code theivery, as I am still learning how to use and manage said-codes.

Yeahh...Sorry if someone else said it, but I have to say it: The no right-click code is annoying and obsolete. Any idiot with a basic knowledge of computers could highlight and use the CTRL code. I use right-click probably...a dozen times a day, for putting codes in, rearranging boards (because i'm too lazy to just delete and re-type. xD), putting images in my signature...obviously, I don't steal this stuff. It's kind of like when someone shoplifts, the store raises it prices, 'punishing' innocent patrons. That's what this code does. Just because a few people don't have the brains to make their own graphics/board descriptions/etc., it 'punishes' innocent members who use right-click for perfectly OK reasons.
EDIT: I've had things stolen from me before. Both graphics and board descriptions. So it's not like I don't know what it feels like. I'm just saying that the person that did it could have done many other things to steal, so I'm not about to clutter up my headers/footers with a useless code.

I had them and took them down... annoying as hell so to say. I tried to quote something by copying and pasting it, did not work..... the code to prevent right click lasted about 3 minutes on my bord , not very long...

I must admit I just took all my right click codes off, mainly because I am now using another browser & it conflicts with people being able to use things like Quick Reply & correcting spelling mistakes (it blocked the cursor from doing so) I'm more interested in having my forum being able to work in many browsers rather than losing my 'work'. After all like someone already mentioned, why protect your 'text' when you can get information from other forums & websites for nothing. The added bonus of course is my forum works a little faster from less codes lol

They are annoying and I RARELY stay at a site which uses them not alone a forum. I don't steal content but I sometimes like to copy words/phrases for personal use or for a google search and don't want to re-type them out. I also like to view larger images which is not allowed with the right-click ban.
If your worried about content theft and actually have content that can be stolen use copy scape. Pay for the full version and it will let you know when someone steals your content. Be sure this is real content which is at least double the size of my post if not 3 times as large.
So my stance on it is NO don't use it.

I am not particularly fond of the "No Right Click" code being used either. It really can drive away many members when they find out that it is there and try to use the right click. Many of them will just turn off javascript or use the noheaders log in trick to get by it so they can right click. Many people don't think about all of the things that people could do to get around the "No Right Click".
I really only use the right click to "Save image as", not to copy, I use CTRL + C to copy something after you have highlighted it.
The code just takes up loading time and is really just a waste of time for the members(especially on AOL).
