Using No Right Click Codes On your ProBoardHow do you folks feel about no right click codes? People use these codes to prevent others from right clicking to capture the URL of their images, in order to keep people from stealing them. People also use these codes to prevent people from right clicking to click 'view source' to steal codes out of the headers and footers. Others use it so people cannot copy text from threads, to paste elsewhere. However, these codes don't really work, as there other, easy alternatives to capture the image URL's, as well as codes and even text in posts. However, even though there are easy alternatives out there to right clicking, maybe this still helps to protect against people w/ little knowledge of computers who are out to steal. But at the same time, this also prevents welcomed members to copy and paste from threads, which is a normal part of everyday posting. So what do you think about no right click codes - a good thing to help against theft, or a total annoying, and useless function? Debate.

As you said if somebody wants to rip images they could easily take a screenshot of the image and then just cut it out of the shot. I'm not sure if it works but you could also go to Veiw >Source Code to see the source. To me it seems like a false sense of security. It is also annoying for me because I right click and use the back option in the menu that comes up. With these blocking scipts I have to deal with the little pop-up that usually appears and then go up to the back button. Just a little pet peeve of mine.

Does it really matter if someone sees and image and use it for their own sake? The right-click block is just plain annoying, personally I don't care if someone does save and image from the forum, there's not alot of problems with that. Forums steal eachothers thread ideas, boards and in some cases members. An image or two just isn't a problem.

I once put a right click disable code on my proboards, but I removed it shortly afterwards. The reason was that I often open links in a new window using "Right Click >> Open Link In New Window" and when right click was disabled, I just couldn't do it! I personally think that right click disabling codes are a pain in the butt. They completely destroy navigational freedom, at least for me. I would never join a forum that has right click disabled. I once did and I left it shortly after joining.

Right click simply does not work. Only in cases of the most extreme newbies who don't know how to do anything on their computer or the internet will it save your images. Anyone who has more than casual knowledge of the internet will find a dozen ways around the right click code. Just save yourself and your members the hassle and leave it off.

I use the 'No right click code' for images on my site, a popup box comes up and tells people to contact me if they want to use any of the images. I prefer this code as it protects my site.

But I could get images from your site if I wanted to anyway. The popup box does not protect your images from anyone but people with only basic knowledge of how to turn a computer on. That is the point that a lot of people make. Richt clicking on a forum can be used for other things than besides getting images off a forum so why disable the other things when people can get your images anyway.

because those with knowledge usually have the knowledge about how to make their own, its those noobies who dont have the knowledge on getting around the system who would be more likely to use my images.

Thanks for giving others ideas that don't know the alternatives. Now they can probably figure it out. Anyway, I don't mind right-click codes. If it's a graphics, writing, or role-playing forum it's completely understandable. If the forum regards writing and wanted to copy off someone, the user might get tired of writing word for word unless they were completely desperate. You guys say the "right click" doesn't work, but not everyone knows that. Some can simply give up.

Actually drewz, it violates the TOS to use someone elses image(s) without there permission, and can get the person who stole it's ProBoard deleted for failure to comply with the TOS.

I do believe their is a code that let's you right click, but it disables right click on images, that would be a better alternative than the usual no right click at all. It is frustrating, I could not edit my headers/footers with the code in, I had to remove it. It's simply better to just use the code that won't let you right click on images or just leave it off.

It is frustrating, I could not edit my headers/footers with the code in, I had to remove it. It's simple better to just use the code that won't let you right click on images or just leave it off. As I said in my post earlier, I sometimes use right click to open a link in a new window. Disabling image right click will sabotage this type of use as well. Why? If I'm using a code and I want to retrieve a color from my skin, I would right click the admin button, open the admin page in a new window and the rest is history. Back to the point, disabling image right click won't let me do the above. I would join a site with right click disabled only if my life depended on it. EDIT: As stated by many before me, you can always find ways around the code. Even a complete idiot may find his way to the source...

Its when people start ripping my images is when I will start using it for awhile, and when I never see the ripper coming back, then I'll take it off my forum.
Yes, there are ways to get around it, but its a lot more annoying to go the other ways then just use right-click.

&NOHEADERS=1, View Source, Disable Javascript. It's easy, and the code is pointless. Maybe you want to check on dimensions. Maybe you've got resources there you want to use.
It's a pointless and annoying code.

Worst codes ever, for so many reasons.
But nobody can right click the images! It rawx!
It isn't hard to take a screenshot, and what if you filled a request on the board and didn't give a link to use. The person wouldn't be able to click the image to get to the Properties.
Yeah, but it's hard to rip stuff!
Like ripping stuff off a forum hosted for free, for the exact same thing, really matters. It isn't the end of the world. While I loathe rippers, it isn't as though you can just end the existance of rippers by simply adding a code to your forum.
Yeah, that's my thoughts. Bai. =P
