I disagree that it's cheating -- the video was a clever idea, though screen shots can still be faked, as you pointed out. However, I do agree that they shouldn't be allowed in the future (videos, at least) -- whoever gets the detective role in the next game (and any successive games) is pretty much guaranteed to do the exact same thing, which will make the detective unstoppable. Also, it does somewhat remove the manipulation element from the game. I actually proved the video can be faked too. But if you are arguing that it can't be then it IS just auto-win for a detective assuming a doctor and nurse protect that person. Also it is unfair because everyone can talk here on the forum. That is equal. Not everyone has photoshop or video software. So screenshots are easy, faked screenshots are harder, video are even more ridiculous. None should be allowed because it has nothing to do with game balance. In the real game everyone is dealt cards. Screenshots are the equivalent of everyone just showing their card on the first day and revealing the mafia for an instant win. That's why it's cheating. Hmm, not necessarily. There's plenty of free photo editing and video software, actually. The doctor and nurse might not believe the detective, and it's impossible to really compare the "real life" version to online, because it's such a different medium. After all, like you said, it could be faked -- you can't really fake cards in real life. Problem is, people will still be able to take screenshots and share them privately, via PM without the game moderator ever knowing. When you start regulating that, you have no way of knowing if the regulations are being followed.

When you start regulating that, you have no way of knowing if the regulations are being followed. Point is its a rule you can't show your card in the real game. Showing your PM should be against the rules. Worse, in the real game you can't "fake a card". And the argument that there is tons of free software for editing shouldn't matter. I even showed how you could firebug it and screenshot (or video). The point is certain people don't have the necessary skills. It's a game of cunning, not a game of graphic design. P.S. I imagine this debate is occurring while I stand in front of the crowd while the hang man preps the rope. Ryan slowly walked up the gallows and surveyed the crowd. Pitchforks and torches everywhere. Some still had the price tags hanging on string fluttering lightly in the breeze. He looked over at Bagheera, that mafia trickster, standing in the crowd smugly. Someday there would be justice for his own death. The noose hung from the hangman's beam. Ryan looked up at the sky and cleared his throat. His eyes met friends in the crowd. " Villagers! Friends! I tried my best to help you all. I understand in such times that justice is blind." His eyes met with those of his wife. He held back his tears. The fur coat, he bought her for Christmas just yesterday, draped over her shoulders. He gave it to her this morning when he decided he might not see Christmas." I did my best to fight the crime of this city. Out there among you even now are dangerous people. When I am gone you must not give up hope. You must not waver in your convictions. You only have each other to get you through this tough time. Please, my last request is that you find the evil in this town and you remove it. It is a stain, a cancer, it must be cured." Ryan turned and walked towards the noose that would take his life. He turned and looked at the sky, the sun starting to set. He made eye contact with his wife one last time. The hangman's hood coming down blocking his vision...

I imagine this debate is occurring while I stand in front of the crowd while the hang man preps the rope. I agreed that we should ban them in future games. I just don't see the problem with me having used them this game. There were no rules against it. The thing is, the more restrictions there are, the more the mod has to deal with. If screenshots aren't okay, what about quoting the initial PM? Can you only share them in private, or not at all? I suggest we find and follow a set of rules next game. Like this one, for instance. Also, I'd love to mod next game if you want to play, Aether. Edited to add: Silly goose, this is OOC.

I agree that there are a lot of bugs to work on for a next game. I've never seen it played before on a forum and I didn't know how well it would translate. And I'm on the fence about videos and screenshots. That can be left up to the discretion of the mod, I suppose. I probably could have done a better job of setting up perimeters.
Anyway... very exciting news! Well, for one group at any rate. Six votes were achieved to lynch.
Since Ryan did such a good job of telling his own account, I won't try to outdo it. Here it is:
Unfortunately, it turns out that Ryan was in the mafia after all. For all intents and purposes, his own request of clearing the town of evil was upheld in his own demise.
Allow us to enter Night 4 (yes, it's been only 4 days).

Like this one, for instance. Also, I'd love to mod next game if you want to play, Aether. Note how the contents of all the various role PM's are listed. That would prevent people from being able to ask others to show them their PM. I recommend that something like this be done in the OP of the next game.

The winter solstice was upon the village, leaving it one if the year's blackest nights. With people afraid to leave their houses, afraid to resume their jobs, the town had started to crumble. Streets were not swept, garbage wasn't collected, broken street lights littered the town.
This particular night saw a dark silhouette walking down a darker street. In front of what looked like an abandoned house, the dark silhouette stopped to examine what had become of the town. At that moment, there was a loud rustling in the bushes across the street.
A gunshot is heard! There is a scramble from the bushes and a car's tires peel out.
The dark silhouette fell to the ground quickly and quietly. It looked like the end, another win for the anonymous evil. But then, the front door of the house opened.
Another dark figure who must have heard the gunshot rushed to the downed citizen. The figure checked the body, found the gunshot wound, and rushed to apply medical aide. "You're going to be alright," the figure said, "I'm a nurse."
The town celebrated that dawn.
Here begins Day 4.

AWESOME! We have six villagers versus three Mafia. <3 So, what do you all say to lynching Jetta next? We all agreed to do it last time, after all. My vote: Jetta.Oh yeah, and the results of my investigation: iCraft is not Mafia. This really surprised me and puts Nightwalker into a whole new suspicious light again, though we can't be sure it's him, either.

Bagheera you have convinced me. I am voting with you from now on...
Also i am not mafia...shouldn't we look at some of the people who have been staying in hiding? Could they be trying to get us to accidentally kill ourselves by staying hidden?
I think the 4th mafia is either Crow or Thumper...
I vote for Jetta

Yeah, from my conversations with you, I don't think you're Mafia either, but I've been wrong before. I'm really not sure, but at this point, we still have a couple nights before we have to worry. By then I'll hopefully have guessed the fourth one right.
