If you made a copy of you current V4 forum, all members will have been copied too, so current members will need to Login with their current username, not register new ones

Problem: We are trying to test our beta V5 site and ran into registration problems for 2 admin members already. Our usernames for both of us were unavailable for our global accounts. You v5 Beta Forum is a copy of your current forum. The accounts aren't unavailable. They are already registered to your members. Your 2 admins need to log in, not register. They are already members on your forum. Also usernames aren't used for global accounts. Usernames are for forums. Each forum has its own usernames. Global accounts use email addresses. No one will already have registered your email address on the global network. So to be able to get online on the copy of our site at the beta V5 link, I had to use a different username for my global account. I don't much like that, and I'm expecting that's going to happen to MANY MANY people and they aren't going to like it either. I'm wondering if this is something we are just going to have to accept or if it's something that can be rectified. Again. Usernames are only on your forum, not globally. No one can take your username, unless they already took it on your forum. If it's telling you it's taken, that means you already own the account. This is a copy of your forum. If you control a username on your real forum then you already exist on your beta copy. Your username won't be taken any more than it is on your real forum. I was unable to change my name to what I want it to be, either because apparently someone else is already using it, so I will be stuck with a name I don't want. You are already using it. Try logging in. Not registering. I was, however then able to log in using my original username and account, so won't actually need to use the global named account at all, so I guess that is some consolation. This is what I was trying to explain above. Your account already existed. You were able to login. The first time you log in you will create a global account automatically. From now on you login with your email (on your beta copy). Another issue I discoverd was that other variations of my username are already unavailable, because I wanted to come here to ask the above question and did not remember my username for this forum, hence I tried creating a new account and was unable to log in using my new global account and unable to create a new account here with two other variations of said account (adding numbers after the name). Finally I just looked it up & found the account I am now using to post here. This is just another v4 forum on ProBoards. Separate forums have spearate usernames (like I explained in the video). We are sorry if someone else already took your username. We are a very large forum with many registered members. The Global Accounts only apply to v5 forums. And right now that only means forums in the BetaZone. This is not a v5 forum and is not in the BetaZone. So how do I link this one to the global account? It didn't ask me to link it, or is that because this forum isn't in V5 yet? I suppose that's the reason. Exactly. This isn't a v5 forum. You can't link it globally. One other question is: Can a person delete a global account? We are currently building this page, but yes. Would deleting a global account delete the accounts linked to it, or only unlink them? It will unlink them. They can then be relinked to a new global account in the future. To delete a forum account you do that on the forum. Another question: Can a person unlink an account from a global account? We are currently building this page, but yes. Another question: Can a person have more than one global account or, can one email address have more than one global account? An email can only be associated with one ProBoards Account. There is nothing stopping someone from creating multiple ProBoards accounts if they have multiple emails. Forum accounts can only be linked to one Global Account at a time though. Lastly, remember that your BetaZone forum is a temporary copy. It is not your new forum. Any content posted there will be lost at the end of BetaZone. Make sure all the members you have visiting it are aware of this.

Ryan: Can you walk me through a scenario please? What happens in the case malicious user Bob knows my e-mail and registers an account with my e-mail BEFORE I do? This is not to say that he knows my password or can read my e-mails, just my e-mail address.

He would not be able to activate the account, and you could use the Forgot Password option to change the account password.

Thank you, Ryan. That really helped. How soon might I be able to delete the global account for the email address that I don't use?
Thank you.

Looks like there needs to be a 'how to login to your new board' video too

After copying my forum over to V5.BetaZone and proceeding into the copied forum, I attempted to log in; Only to be forced to use the Global Log In feature. I can see how this would be useful for a variety of members, but not for me. Is there anyway around this feature? As it is currently; I can not log into my Test V5.BetaZone forum because of this.

Why can you not login? Are you getting an error or something else?
You should be able to login just as you would at your regular forum.

I'll break it down a bit so you can understand where I am coming from. -Firstly, I created my V5 BetaZone copy of my forum -Secondly, I went to the address of my copied forum(V5 BetaZone) -Thirdly, clicked 'Log-in' as per-usual -Fourthly, typed in my username and password Now here is where the issue comes in; -Fifth, After attempting to log in as per-usual it re-directs me to use the Global Log-in feature. Which is something that I do not want to use. The issue isn't an error it is that it keeps forcing me to use the Global Log-in feature; which is not logging in like a regular forum nor what I want. I simply wish to log in as I would normally on a regular forum.

If you are logged into your forum, then there is no bug here. Our Global Login feature is on our secure server which provides enhanced security for your forum. We are not removing this feature. The purpose of it is to securely log you into your forum.

The thing is that I can not log into my forum for the simple fact that it re-directs me to the Global Log-in Page. Which is something that I do not want to do.

When you reach the global login page, type your username and password. Then it will log you in and send you back to your forum.

After I log in I am forced to the following page, which is something that I do not want to do. Unfortunately, I can not access my forum without going through this process. Here is a screenshot of it; http://i94./l89/dwandswforlife/globallog.jpg
