I put together a short explanation of the ProBoards Global Accounts that will be used in v5.
I recommend watching full screen in order to better see my diagram.
One last note I didn't mention. If you only have one account on one forum, that's fine. The only thing different will be using your email address to log in, which is more secure. For you, logging in to your forum wont be any different.
If anyone has any questions regarding the login system please ask them here. There have been lots of confusion, rumors and misinformation about the ProBoards Accounts. I'd like to clear all of that up. ;D ;D ;D
UPDATES FROM THE VIDEO:
You DO NOT have to use your email to login. By default you can use your username still if you wish. However for increased security you can change your login setting by clicking the gear icon below and adjusting your security setting to be Email only login. It's up to you guys now. ProBoards highly recommends you use email login only for the most secure experience.
We streamlined a few of the things I talked about. For example: We removed the step where you had to pick a forum and then an account when using the forum swap icon. Now you just pick any account and jump straight to it.

Thank you so much. That was so much easier for me to visually see how it worked rather then just read about it. I appreciated that very much.

Thank you so much for this video - it really cleared up my confusion!
I did have one question though: how does this work if you have multiple forums upon at once? Would this be affected by the global account, or would I actually be signed in with two or three accounts at once like I can do now?

You can still be signed into multiple forums at once and you can have those forums open in multiple windows/tabs at once. You can't be multiple accounts on the same forum at once. At least not in the same browser. It's no different than now.

Problem: We are trying to test our beta V5 site and ran into registration problems for 2 admin members already. Our usernames for both of us were unavailable for our global accounts.
So to be able to get online on the copy of our site at the beta V5 link, I had to use a different username for my global account. I don't much like that, and I'm expecting that's going to happen to MANY MANY people and they aren't going to like it either. I'm wondering if this is something we are just going to have to accept or if it's something that can be rectified.
I was unable to change my name to what I want it to be, either because apparently someone else is already using it, so I will be stuck with a name I don't want.
I was, however then able to log in using my original username and account, so won't actually need to use the global named account at all, so I guess that is some consolation.
Another issue I discoverd was that other variations of my username are already unavailable, because I wanted to come here to ask the above question and did not remember my username for this forum, hence I tried creating a new account and was unable to log in using my new global account and unable to create a new account here with two other variations of said account (adding numbers after the name). Finally I just looked it up & found the account I am now using to post here.
So how do I link this one to the global account? It didn't ask me to link it, or is that because this forum isn't in V5 yet? I suppose that's the reason.
One other question is: Can a person delete a global account? Would deleting a global account delete the accounts linked to it, or only unlink them?
Another question: Can a person unlink an account from a global account?
Another question: Can a person have more than one global account or, can one email address have more than one global account?
Okay, lot's of questions, I know. But I expect we will get those types of questions from our forum members.
Modified to add:
I think I found the problem for why our usernames were not available for the global accounts. We tried creating the global accounts BEFORE trying to log onto the beta of our site. I accidentally discovered this when I tried to log on to the beta site using one of my testing sock puppet accounts (a different email address) and WAS able to create a global account with the username I wanted.
NOW there is another problem. I have 3 different email addresses for different forum accounts and I want to figure out how to link them all. Do I have to change all of their email addresses to the same address before I can link them all?
Also is there a page where I can just manage my global account and link all accounts from there, or is it only possible by going to each forum site one at a time? I found A page for linking new forum accounts, but I don't seem to have the option of deleting the account or changing the email address for the global account.
How can I change the email address for the global account I want to keep?
