have to say I Im not a techie and don't have a clue nor do I need all this even in a years time
why do we have to upgrade at all there is nothing wrong with what I have and don't need another 50000 buttons
it too me ages to start making templates looks like now they all need to be dumped or major amendments I don't need or have time for
I only have a small forum with a small number of members and looking at this I feel like packing up completely because I don't have the faintest where to start

Also, there are many communities that have asked for things to be simpler to use, take header and footer codes for example, in V4 you copy and paste, and hope you don't miss copying a closing tag, which would deny you access to the admin panel. In V5 (once everything starts being added) you go to the plugin library, choose the plugin (side tables etc) and click on it, you only then need to fill in what you want to display, and you're done. Add to this, the forum will be more secure with logins, spam will be reduced etc If you haven't already, you should register for a Betazone copy of your board by going here you can then see how your forum would look in V5m and be able to ask for help on any part you get stuck with. Anything you do on the beta can be exported to your v5 board once it is converted

My first post here. I started our motorsports forum and have been the sole admin since 2004 and I'm excited to progress to V5. I've played in the BetaZone and have activated my forum for upgrade. I have received the following message; "This forum is currently in queue to be upgraded to ProBoards v5. Current Position in Queue: 1" I'm just wondering if anybody knows approximately how long it takes until my forum is upgraded after the process starts. Thanks in advance, Blair Alderton nitroimage.proboards.com/index.cgi

Ok that didn't take too long... about two hours for the conversion. Thank goodness I had played around with the beta version, I just copied my formatting over. I'm good to go!

Hey there,
New to the forum and wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction to find out what the new updates are for V5?
Thank you!

Anything you do on the beta can be exported to your v5 board once it is converted. Hi, Patrick (or anyone...)! Just so's I'm clear: I'm working on my test forum and am one of those who is 60/40 against change. Just in case I like v5, are you saying anything I do on the test page can translate to the actual v5 or will I have to go back to the old forum and change over with it, since it is the original. I would hate to lose all the work I've done over the past 24 hours and have to redo.
Thanks! LoWOnce you get the betazone board looking the way you want it, you can export themes and plugins to your computer. Then you can convert your current board to V5 and import the themes and plugins. You will not lose posts etc when you convert, just a bit of tweaking of the theme, and you should be good to go. Remember that the betazone board is temporary for testing

Oh I see, sort of like working on and tweaking v4's headers and footers, and saving the format offline before you do something major. Then, just re-inserting some or all back in. That's great!
Thanks for the reply! Now to convince my 200 members to take a leap of faith. If you and your members have any concerns, take a look at some of the posts in the praise board, there are many that were terrified of change, but have now seen the advantages.

Hi' Patrick, Here's the e-mail I got from PB and went to the Sign-In page, entered my Key and when I 'submitted' my 'Key' the Page that came up and has came up every time I go there? I'm told that it's closed for "Maintenance" I have submitted my board glesgafolk.proboards.com/index.cgi to try out the Beta testing ... but when trying to acceess it? get the Maintenance Page. Sorry bout this, but it's frustrating the heck out of me, at my age I just want simplicity, LoL! E-Mail:....................... ProBoards 12/29/12 to me Thank you for upgrading your account at ProBoards Support (v5 Test Area)! Your activation key is: removed

Never post your activation key (i removed it)
Go back to the betazone page using the link, and at the top of that page it should show where it is in the queue
