I have to agree that all of this fussing is completely ridiculous. There have been announcements about this upgrade for the last YEAR now. All of you (complaining) admins had the chance to convert your boards to a beta so you could start seeing what you could do, and if you CHOSE NOT TO take advantage of that, then I don't think that PB should have to kiss your rear ends to make up for it.

Know what? I am not a coder either. But I sure as heck can read through posts on all the v5 boards to see what others are asking about. I can go through the template mods and find things that I think would be useful. Same with the plugins board. And if something doesn't make sense, or I don't see what I need, I ASK!

Seriously! How hard is that, people? I don't think it's unreasonable that some of you make a modicum of effort on your own before having a giant tantrum. </rant>

I absolutely LOVE the v5 upgrade and wouldn't give it up for the world. I'm SOOOOO thankful we decided to leave IPB and come back to Probards. Everything is so much easier to accomplish and there's soooo much more you can do!

we also had lots of hacks in header&footer but I don't miss them at all (okay, I miss the spoiler button hack).

we all know at least since 2011 that a new version is coming and most of the hacks won't work on v5.

every admin have the responsibility to prep their site and users.

don't blame others if you were lazy to prep for v5.

If you have a look in the Plugin board, I do believe there is a Spoiler tag plugin available already, by Todge.

What do you guys use the Spoiler for?  I see what it does, just trying to figure out why I would use it on my board.  Thanks

I'll try to explain this a little more. Though keep in mind one big thing. None of this is finalized and I'm literally working on it right now. (This literally hasn't even been discussed in our design review yet so this is in no way guaranteed to be the final design, though it could be)

First and most importantly. It will remember your setting.

Second. The easiest way to show you might just be an example. These are all from the admins view.



So you can see in simple mode you just don't have navigation options. They are just gone. You still have the Overview mode that everyone has now, but can't even see the Standard mode of the map.

Simple is simple. Its just the basic core stuff.

Notice in standard mode you can see every page everywhere.

Legacy is just a mess, but it will help people who are too used to v4 and can't adapt. Not every option is even available in the map, but all of the pages will still be available in the upper right navigation based on your permissions and Admin Control Panel setting. You can see how lots of links actually go to the same page (look at all the green links on the left saide, they all go to the Category and Boards page, ridiculous), because v5 improved how things work.

Actions is still being worked on, So I won't show it here. But it's like I explained before. Things you want to do. And there is a final type that we won't discuss today that we want to do sometime in a future update.

Overall none of the pages themselves are different. This is simply a way for people to navigate and function. Pages are hidden. Not modified. And above all your permissions still dictate what you can see. So pages you aren't allowed to access based on your permissions will still not appear in the navigation or map, just like they do now.

One more time, none of this is finalized. It's not even reviewed.

Personally, I rarely use it, but I am a movie fan and watch a lot, so make lots of topics for movies and comment on them. Some times spoiling them, so i would add it to that. You could also use it so posts aren't as long, if you copy and paste a long piece of info or something. I'm sure there's many uses.

Ryan Roos In all the admin view examples shown, the navigation across the top remains the same. Will this probably be the case when finalized? After getting familiar with where things are, that's what I usually use, not too concerned with the rest of the page.

2 Rules apply to the navigation at the top.

1) Do you have permission to access a page?

2) Are you now running simple mode?

That's how the top navigation will be affected. If you are the main admin who's been fine with v5 and running in standard mode then nothing will be different at all for you. If you are a moderator then you will still only see those areas you're allowed to see, just like it is right now. If you are one of the admins who freaked out and is using the new simple mode you will only see the sections from the simple map in the navigation at the top.

That last bit is the whole point of this. We're removing the appearance of all of those scary pages for everyone. They simply wont see them while they are in Simple mode. The pages will exist however, so if they were to directly link to a page they could still get there (assuming they had proper permissions) but they won't see a link in any navigation anywhere. That's why the Standard map disappears in simple mode. Because we don't want people panicking over all the extra pages they could visit.

Someone with all the permissions in Simple mode will only see ~19 total pages everywhere.
Someone with all the permissions in Standard mode will see all 47 pages of the admin area in the standard map (and around the ~32 in the top navigation that you see now).

If you are going to use Standard mode nothing is changing for you at all. Don't panic!

While the simply version is designed to make converting from V4 easier, it isn't the same things as V4.

Yea, and that's the only reason I can see using them, but there seemed to be such a big following of folks using them I thought maybe there was something else people used them for that I was missing.  From the replies here, I guess not, thus probably not much good in my forum.
