er... for spoilers? :) like what's the end of a drama or movie :) Yea, and that's the only reason I can see using them, but there seemed to be such a big following of folks using them I thought maybe there was something else people used them for that I was missing. From the replies here, I guess not, thus probably not much good in my forum. Thanks all I used to ask members to hide embedded videos under spoiler tags to prevent heavy cpu usage because of the flash. (imagine a page with 15-20 youtube video without a flashblock plugin installed on your browser) And very useful to hide extralarge pics under spoiler. And very useful to hide many pics under spoiler.

I've been doing graphics for a little while now but I never had the opportunity to run a website. People would ask me to do a banner, background, icon etc. I would make it for them then send it to them, I never actually implemented them to the website. Recently I was asked to be an admin on a website. They were using the older proboards version (v4). We have since upgraded to the v5. I don't have any attachment to v4 since I was only using it for about a month. I can honestly say the v5 is so much better in every way. I think most of the people who don't like the new version are just comfortable with the old one. They are not spending a little time to familiarize themselves with the new board.

All right why is there a praise board but not a complaints board? I've been around NUMEROUS proboards sites that REALLY do NOT like V5. It's supposed to be easier to use? Well sorry but you're wrong. It isn't at all. Why are you forcing everyone to change? You do realize that in doing this? A lot of people are going to be moving to Invisionfree or Jcink because they're just as difficult and haven't changed so there's no real worry about them messing things up for anyone using them. So why proboards? Why? Can't you just make the change optional? There are SO MANY of us forum admins out there that despise V5 because it's more difficult and also people go to log in and they have to go a really long round about way of doing so. Which also goes against V5. Now I know proboards is free (as are many others) but I as an admin I am seriously worried because I know I'm not the only one who's having trouble.... As in LOTS of trouble. I move my headers and footers over? It just messes up the entire site on V5. I'm rather disappointed and I'm currently questioning whether I even want to stay with proboards anymore. I was actually going to pay to have my own domain name on proboards, however, I am actually VERY glad I didn't. Thanks Yori Got to agree i switched over and in all honesty i wish i had not bothered i have members who can not log in or post some days half the content on my old forum I can not get to work anymore. I would rather go back to the old forum where you could choose from the code data base and simply change your from using the headers and footers for the pages you wanted different things on, sadly version 5 seems way to complicated and its fine if you understand coding but little thought seems to have been given to the average forum admin user like me!!!!

It will be that way again, but instead of a code database, you'll have a plugin database. We just need to wait for the volunteer coders to catch up and make those plugins. It's one of the reasons I'm not in a hurry to convert my forum just yet.

"Simple": Could call it "v5 for dummies"? (yep. I'm a dummy....... But.....There is no such thing as a "problem"......It's just another name for a "challenge". Bring it on!! I want to learn.) This isn't appropriate. Please be respectful to those member who choose to use the Simple modes. Not everyone is a coder. Got to agree i switched over and in all honesty i wish i had not bothered i have members who can not log in or post some days half the content on my old forum I can not get to work anymore. We are still in a Beta and it warned you before you converted your forum. Today marks 3 months until the actual launch. Please be patient and ask for help with anything you might need. That's part of being a beta tester.

My post was not intended to be disrespectful to anyone. The referance I made to "Dummies" was a referance to the series of books (starting with DOS for dummies) which helped us understand things at about the time of windows 95) I live in England and if you were to call me "simple" you would be calling me "stupid". (hence the word "simpleton") It is often said that Britain and America are "two nations divided by a common language". Maybe you should call the feature "basic"?

I am using the support section and most people are being very helpful, but sometimes things are explained as if we all know code and then people seem to get funny about you not understanding first time round.
But basic problems like members not being able to log in is causing real issues now with people getting fed up and leaving or having to register again.Like a few others I made the mistake that it was ready to go with the blur that was in the admin panel saying you can switch so many days early.

(hence the word "simpleton") It is often said that Britain and America are "two nations divided by a common language". Maybe you should call the feature "basic"? That is actually an excellent idea with regards to renaming 'Simple' to 'Basic'. We will discuss this and make a decision. I personally like 'Basic' even more I think. Sort of the same way, I am aware of the for Dummies books. I have a bunch of them actually. But not everyone will get that. I was just letting you know that your post could be taken the wrong way. Much like Simple mode could be in Britain. Thank you. I'm sorry that you converted earlier than you wanted. Unfortunately it's a one way street. We actually have gone back and made it even more obvious and explained it in greater detail for other admins so that they don't make the same mistake. Ironically as a beta tester you and others who converted early helped us improve the system in that way. If your members are having trouble that should be no different than if you are having trouble with something on your forum. Be sure to ask for help, or try to get them to come ask for help. There is also a wizard at the bottom of the login page designed to assist people. Make sure they use it if they are getting stuck. After the conversion all they had to do was literally login like they normally would with their username and password and the system guide them from there. They should have no issues. Even if they've made new accounts with new logins they should still, even now, be able to get their old accounts. There is no reason why they can't login just like they normally could. And if they have created global accounts now when they registered their new accounts it will be an even easier process to get the old accounts. Instead of upgrading it will just be linking them. So make sure they login with their old usernames and passwords just like they always have and then just follow the steps on the screen.
